About this Scientist II, Process Chemistry role at Revolution Medicines
Revolution Medicines is a global, commercial-state oncology company dedicated to discovering, developing and delivering innovative medicines for patients with RAS-addicted cancers. Leveraging its differentiated RAS(ON) tri-complex inhibitor platform, the company is advancing a broad, integrated portfolio of oral RAS(ON) inhibitors designed to directly target the active, cancer-driving state of RAS. Founded on rigorous scientific inquiry and a willingness to challenge long-held assumptions, Revolution Medicines is committed to changing the trajectory of disease for patients with RAS-addicted cancers worldwide.
Our people are united by a shared way of working: follow the science, challenge assumptions, act with urgency and hold ourselves to a high standard of rigor—all in service of patients.
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a gifted experimentalist to join our team as a laboratory-based process chemist to own development workstreams for a small-molecule drug substance. You will independently design and execute experiments, solve complex chemistry problems, and develop robust processes suitable for scale-up and technology transfer. This is a hands-on individual contributor role with responsibility for scientific recommendations and delivery of assigned development objectives.
-
Own the development of reactions, process steps, or development workstreams, setting experimental approaches and coordinating work to meet agreed project objectives.
-
Design and execute experiments to evaluate alternative routes and optimize reactions, workup, isolation, and crystallization conditions.
-
Investigate complex reaction behavior and impurity formation using mechanistic reasoning, experimental design, comparison of analytical data, and understanding relevant scientific literature.
-
Develop robust processes by defining parameter sensitivity, reproducibility, impurity control, solubility limits, and other practical requirements for manufacturing.
-
Plan and execute laboratory studies and translate results into recommendations for process implementation at large-scale.
-
Prepare technology transfer procedures and work with external contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) to resolve implementation issues.
-
Author process development reports and technical content supporting regulatory documentation; maintain complete electronic laboratory records.
-
Provide scientific guidance to research associates, present recommendations to project teams, and identify and address laboratory and process safety risks.
Required Skills, Experience and Education:
-
PhD in organic chemistry and at least 2 years of related experience, which may include postdoctoral research.
-
Demonstrated ability to independently design and execute process development studies and solve complex synthetic chemistry problems.
-
Strong hands-on skills in multistep synthesis, reaction optimization, isolation, and characterization using NMR, chromatography, and mass spectrometry.
-
Ability to connect experimental results with process robustness, scale-up considerations, and project objectives.
-
Experience taking responsibility for a defined scientific workstream and providing technical guidance to colleagues.
-
Clear scientific writing, effective collaboration, and proficiency with electronic laboratory notebooks, data analysis tools, and ChemDraw.
Preferred Skills:
-
Industry experience in pharmaceutical process development, laboratory scale-up, crystallization, or technology transfer to CDMOs.
-
Experience with design of experiments, automated laboratory reactors, cGMP manufacturing, or drug substance regulatory documentation.
