 Northrop Grumman is seeking an Electronic Maintenance Technician / SCA Electronics Technician 2 to join our team in Yorktown, Virginia.  This position is within the MK-48 Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA), which provides critical support to the U.S. Navy’s Atlantic Fleet with an onsite repair capability for the MK-48 Heavyweight Torpedo.  This is a government facility that is comprised of a mixture of Contractor, Civil Service, and Military personnel. The Electronics Maintenance Technician will perform various maintenance actions using detailed procedures and will have oversight from a direct Manager. Key responsibilities include MK-48 torpedo maintenance, testing and troubleshooting. 

In this role you will be responsible for testing and troubleshooting of MK-48 torpedoes and support equipment.  The selected candidate will be expected to follow established guidelines and standards to ensure system reliability and provide system expertise at the facility.  Examples of work to be performed are electrical & mechanical testing, troubleshooting, modifying and repairing torpedo hardware.  All actions are to be performed in accordance with US government approved procedures. 

Job responsibilities:

  • Repair, modify, and troubleshoot a variety of electronic equipment and Electronic Warfare systems. You will be working on mission critical and highly complex MK-48 torpedo systems and equipment
  • Must be disciplined to follow detailed instructions and comply with procedures
  • Perform a variety of repairs and maintenance actions using approved procedures (paper and electronic)
  • Accurately document repair actions (paper and electronic)
  • Test and accept assemblies per approved acceptance test procedures
  • Use common electronic test equipment such as oscilloscope, digital multimeters and logic analyzers to troubleshoot equipment failures
  • Use NAVSEA drawings and schematics to make repairs on MK-48 components and support equipment
  • Perform qualification testing, troubleshooting, and test data review of completed work packages
  • Perform crane operations within the facility
  • Support continuous process improvement and innovation
  • Perform Quality Assurance Inspections/reviews
  • Perform Ordnance Handling Evolutions within the facility
  • Perform Torpedo verification testing, operation, repairs and maintenance actions utilizing automatic test equipment per approved procedures and accurately documenting the completion
  • Certified IPC J-STD-001 CIS

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent in electronics related field and 2 years related experience
  • U.S. citizen with an active Secret security clearance 
  • Wide-ranging technical expertise and working knowledge of other related disciplines
  • Experience with basic design concepts and criteria for more complex problems
  • Knowledge of basic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, and electronic loads, and logic analyzers
  • Perform data analysis to identify trends that may indicate out of tolerance or degraded part performance
  • Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and able to wear steel toe shoes and other safety gear
  • Ability to pass an Explosive Handler Physical
  • Ability to obtain Arms and Ammunition Explosive Screening
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products such as Windows Desktop OS, Office Product suite
  • Acquire and maintain CPR certification 
  • Ability to work onsite in Yorktown, VA 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electrical engineering experience preferred
  • Soldering certification
  • MK-48 torpedo experience

Primary Level Salary Range: $31.31 - $31.31

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
