Job Description:

• Prepare timely weekly, monthly and quarterly activity reports, success stories, lessons learned and documentation of challenges and best practices.
• Facilitate community mobilisation, triggering, follow-up and verification processes to support communities to eliminate open defecation and progress towards Open Defecation Free (ODF) status.
• Collect, analyse and report data on sanitation coverage, open defecation, hygiene practices, facility functionality and behaviour change using approved monitoring tools and digital platforms. Facilitate community consultations and feedback mechanisms and ensure community concerns are addressed and incorporated into programme implementation.
• Develop and implement sanitation and hygiene promotion work plans in line with project objectives, national policies, Sphere standards and WASH sector guidelines.
• Design and implement context-appropriate hygiene promotion activities targeting critical behaviours, including handwashing with soap, safe water handling and storage, household sanitation, food hygiene and menstrual hygiene management. Promote safe and dignified menstrual hygiene practices and support the provision of appropriate facilities, information and materials for women and girls. Ensure sanitation and hygiene activities address the needs of women, girls, children, older persons and persons with disabilities, and promote safe and accessible facilities.
• Coordinate with government authorities, WASH Cluster partners, UNICEF, NGOs and community stakeholders to ensure harmonised sanitation and hygiene programming.

Qualifications/Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Community Development, Social Sciences, Environmental Science, or another relevant field.
• A Diploma in Environmental Health, Public Health or WASH with substantial relevant experience may be considered.
• Relevant training in sanitation and hygiene promotion, Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), behaviour change communication/social behaviour change (SBC), community mobilisation, School WASH, Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), and emergency WASH programming.
• strong knowledge of sanitation and hygiene promotion approaches, including Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), Open Defecation Free (ODF) approaches and sanitation marketing.
• Good understanding of hygiene behavior changes and Social and Behavior Change (SBC) approaches, including the design of culturally appropriate hygiene promotion messages and campaigns.
• Knowledge of water quality risks and fecal-oral disease transmission, including household water treatment, safe water handling, and storage.
• Good knowledge of public health risks associated with poor sanitation and hygiene, including diarrheal diseases, cholera, and other disease outbreaks.
• Familiarity with emergency WASH programming in conflict-affected, displaced, flood-prone or other fragile contexts.
• Knowledge of relevant WASH standards and frameworks, including Sphere Standards, national WASH policies and guidelines, UNICEF guidance, and WASH Cluster standards.
• Understanding of community mobilization and participatory approaches, including working effectively with community leaders, religious leaders, women, youth and vulnerable groups.
• Knowledge of School WASH, hygiene clubs and Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) programming.
• Understanding gender, protection, safeguarding and disability inclusion in the design and implementation of sanitation and hygiene interventions.
• Knowledge of Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) and community feedback and complaint mechanisms.
• Ability to conduct and interpret sanitation and hygiene assessments, Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) surveys and post-distribution monitoring.
• Knowledge and ability to use digital data collection and monitoring platforms, such as mWater or similar systems.
• Strong skills in data analysis, report writing, documentation, and presentation.
• Good understanding of project cycle management, including activity planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and budget tracking.
• Ability to work effectively with government institutions, NGOs, UN agencies, WASH Cluster partners, and local communities.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation and community engagement skills.
