Job Description:

The Safety Manager is responsible for the prevention, detection, and resolution of loss throughout our Marina Shores site and in Los Angeles. The Manager oversees development and implementation of behavior-based safety practices, audits functions for health and safety procedure implementation, ensures compliance with local regulations and OSHA requirements and conducts root-cause analysis of health and safety incidents. In addition, this Safety Manager elevates and maintains safety in Onni’s culture and operations securing a pivotal role in implementing processes and procedures as well as observes and understands operational requirements and provide sound recommendations that elevate safety and support business operations.

What You Will Do

Safety Program Development & Management

• Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific safety plans for each assigned multifamily mid-rise and tenant improvement project

• Maintain and update Onni's Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) in accordance with Cal/OSHA requirements

• Develop and manage site-specific Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Plans, and Fall Protection Plans

• Establish and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for all major construction activities

• Implement Onni's corporate safety policies and procedures across all active job sites

• Coordinate with insurance carriers on Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) or Contractor Controlled Insurance Program (CCIP) requirements when applicable

Field Safety Oversight – Multifamily Mid-Rise Projects

• Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly safety inspections on multifamily mid-rise construction sites (Types III and V wood-frame, podium concrete)

• Oversee critical safety operations, including scaffolding, fall protection, crane operations, excavation, shoring, and material handling

• Coordinate with building operations to ensure occupied-building safety protocols are followed

• Manage life-safety systems during construction, including fire alarms, sprinklers, and egress protection

• Ensure proper containment of construction dust, debris, and hazardous materials in occupied buildings

• Coordinate after-hours work permits, noise mitigation, and building tenant coordination

Subcontractor Safety Management

• Review and approve subcontractor safety plans, insurance certificates, and safety qualification documentation prior to mobilization

• Verify subcontractor OSHA training records, competent person designations, and required certifications

• Conduct pre-mobilization safety orientations for all subcontractor workers

• Enforce subcontractor compliance with Onni's safety standards; issue safety violations and stop-work orders as needed

• Hold subcontractors accountable for their crews' safety performance and reporting requirements

Training & Safety Culture Development

• Conduct new hire and subcontractor safety orientations for all workers on assigned projects

• Deliver targeted safety training on high-hazard activities (fall protection, silica, heat illness, crane signaling, etc.)

• Provide safety training and communication as needed to reach all field workers

• Champion a proactive safety culture through recognition programs, near-miss reporting, and worker engagement

• Coordinate specialized training programs (OSHA 10, OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, HAZWOPER as applicable)

Incident Management & Investigation

• Respond immediately to all workplace incidents, injuries, and near-misses on assigned projects

• Lead root cause investigations for incidents; develop and implement corrective action plans

• Complete OSHA 300 logs, Cal/OSHA reporting, and workers' compensation documentation in a timely manner

Regulatory Compliance & Documentation

• Ensure compliance with all federal OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and local safety regulations

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Cal/OSHA standards, including Heat Illness Prevention (T8 CCR §3395), Silica Rule, and Fall Protection standards

• Complete and maintain required safety documentation, permits, and inspection records

• Coordinate with Cal/OSHA during inspections and respond to any citations or complaints

• Ensure proper posting of all required safety notices, permits, and OSHA documentation at each job site

Reporting & Analytics

• Track safety KPIs, including TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate), DART, and near-miss reporting

• Prepare monthly safety reports for construction leadership and executive team

• Analyze incident trends to identify systemic issues and develop preventive strategies

• Present safety performance data at project meetings and executive reviews

• Maintain project-specific safety scorecards and benchmarks

Vendor, Regulatory & Community Coordination

• Coordinate with Cal/OSHA representatives during site inspections

• Interface with local fire departments, building departments, and municipal inspectors as needed

What You Bring

• B.S. Occupational Safety & Health Engineering or related Field.
• Construction Health & Safety Tech. Certification (CHSR) an asset.
• Auditor certificate an asset.
• 5+ years of construction or property management experience.
• 3+ years of safety management and training experience.
• Solid understanding of OSHA and industry specific regulations.
• Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
• Solid written and verbal communication skills.

Salary Range:

$85,000 - $90,000 Salary
