Job Description Summary

The position will help routesetting the Wellbeing Center’s climbing & bouldering wall. Other responsibilities will include facilitating climbing during weekday and weekend open hours. This position requires night and weekend work.

Job Description

This position is not eligible for sponsorship of non-immigrant or immigrant visa status through Wake Forest University. All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply.

Essential Functions:

  • Help set a regular rotation of climbing routes at climbing & bouldering wall with a variety of difficulty levels in conjunction with student employees and volunteers.
  • Help clean climbing holds, volumes, and routesetting areas.
  • Maintenance of climbing wall inventory and records.
  • Assist with custom programming at the climbing & bouldering wall.
  • Work weekend and weekday shifts, especially during academic breaks and over the summer.

Other Functions:

  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and Manager of Outdoor Pursuits.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Prior routesetting experience
  • Ability to work at heights

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Experience working at a climbing gym
  • Teaching experience

Accountabilities:

  • Evening and weekend work required and flexible schedule. Available to provide leadership and support part-time and student staff during times facilities and programs are operating.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting, walking, twisting, bending, climbing, pulling, pushing, squatting, crawling,
  • kneeling, balancing, reaching, and coordination (eye, hand, foot).
  • Extensive physical exercise and exertion during climbing activities requiring
  • cardiovascular strength.
  • Fall (slip, trip) conditions that result in falls (impacts) from height or traditional walking and playing surfaces.
  • Lifting of items up to 75 lbs.
  • Use of office equipment including computers, telephones, and copiers.

Environmental Conditions:

  • The position works in a wide variety of environments including an office setting, as well as an indoor programming facility and outside environments with exposure to dust, heat and possible adverse weather conditions.
  • Continuous contact with staff, campus community, and public.
