Overview

The Risk & Compliance Manager will establish, implement, and sustain a robust Risk and Compliance Framework across VisionFund Kenya, ensuring effective identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring of operational, credit, and regulatory risks. The role safeguards institutional integrity, promotes a strong risk culture, and ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while supporting sustainable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Operational & Credit Risk Oversight (40%)

• Lead frameworks for operational and credit risk management across branches and departments
• Oversee fraud prevention, internal control compliance, and investigations into irregularities
• Conduct branch and portfolio risk reviews and root cause analysis for credit losses

Enterprise Risk & Compliance Framework (25%)

• Develop and maintain an organization-wide Risk Management and Compliance Framework aligned to regulatory, donor, and VisionFund International standards
• Serve as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and liaise with regulators under CEO guidance
• Ensure compliance with AML/CFT, Data Protection, Digital Credit Providers Regulations, and Unclaimed Financial Assets requirements

Planning, Analytics & Reporting (10%)

• Develop annual risk and compliance work plans and budgets
• Prepare quarterly risk and compliance reports for the Board Risk & Audit Committee and VisionFund International
• Track internal audit recommendations and drive timely closure of audit issues

Risk Culture, Training & Awareness (10%)

• Develop and implement a risk and compliance training program for staff at all levels
• Build branch and departmental risk champions to embed risk ownership

Other Duties (5%)

• Perform other related duties as assigned by the CEO, including special projects and strategic risk reviews

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CIA, CISA, CRMA, or similar) preferred
• Minimum 5 years' experience in Risk, Compliance, or Internal Audit within the Microfinance or Financial Services sector
• Demonstrated expertise in credit risk assessment, operational risk control, and regulatory compliance
• Strong leadership, analytical, communication, and influencing skills
• High integrity, attention to detail, and the ability to balance compliance with business objectives
