Located in the Bronx, Lehman is a four-year Hispanic-Serving Institution offering bachelor’s, master’s, and advanced degrees, as well as certificate programs across the liberal arts, sciences, and professions. Lehman enrolls more than 14,000 students in a vibrant international community with a strong tradition of academic excellence and public service. The College’s 37-acre, tree-lined campus and growing portfolio of online programs serve as a hub for learning, innovation, and opportunity. Each year, thousands of community members also engage with Lehman through cultural, educational, health, and economic outreach programs.

The Division of Student Affairs supports students’ social, personal, and emotional development and promotes intellectual and ethical growth through programs, initiatives, clubs, leadership opportunities, and community engagement. The Division comprises six subgroups: (1) Transition and Retention; (2) Student Health, Wellness, and Inclusion; (3) Leadership and Engagement; (4) Career Exploration and Professional Development; (5) Varsity Athletics, Intramurals, and the APEX; and (6) Housing and Residence Life. The Division reports to the President.

The Resident Coordinator is a live-in professional staff position within the Office of Residence Life and reports directly to the Director of Residence Life. The Resident Coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily operation of the residence hall, supervising student staff, fostering a safe and inclusive residential community, and responding to student needs and emergencies.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Assistant (RA) staff, including monitoring duty schedules, approving required training and professional development, and providing ongoing supervision and support.

  • Maintain regular office hours and ensure consistent accessibility to residents, families, student staff, and professional colleagues.

  • Oversee residence hall operations, including room assignments and changes, Room Condition Reports (RCRs), health and safety inspections, fire drills, damage assessment, and billing processes.

  • Coordinate residence hall opening and closing procedures at the beginning and end of each semester and during scheduled vacation periods.

  • Participate in the professional staff on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and respond to emergencies, wellness checks, lockouts, housekeeping concerns, facilities issues, and other residential needs.

  • Provide crisis intervention and emergency response support for physical and mental health concerns, behavioral incidents, and other emergencies in accordance with established protocols.

  • Coordinate with Public Safety, Counseling Services, Health Services, facilities staff, emergency responders, and other campus partners as appropriate.

  • Support students experiencing interpersonal conflicts, emotional distress, behavioral concerns, or other challenges through appropriate guidance, referrals, conflict resolution, and mediation.

  • Investigate alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct and Residence Hall Handbook and, when authorized, adjudicate lower-level conduct matters and assign appropriate educational or disciplinary sanctions.

  • Collaborate with Public Safety and other campus partners to promote a safe, secure, welcoming, and inclusive residential environment.

  • Develop and implement programs and initiatives that promote student engagement, well-being, leadership, community building, and a strong sense of belonging.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student concerns, incidents, conduct matters, facilities issues, and residence hall operations.

  • Participate in departmental meetings, training, assessment, emergency preparedness, and other initiatives of the Office of Residence Life.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Due to the nature of the position and the need for professional staff presence and accessibility within the residence hall, the Resident Coordinator must maintain a flexible schedule that includes evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
