The LUMINOUS! Centre of Excellence for Semiconductor Lighting and Displays at NTU is seeking a Research Fellow (Single-Photon Emission Characterization & Ultrafast Optical Instrumentation) to support an NRF-funded project on electrically driven single-photon-emitting diodes based on colloidal quantum wells. The role involves setting up single-photon-emission characterization capabilities and performing advanced electrical, optical, and single-photon characterization of quantum optoelectronic devices. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research in quantum photonics, single-photon technologies, and next-generation semiconductor devices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the installation, commissioning, calibration, and optimization of a state-of-the-art single-photon-emission characterization platform together with ultrafast and time-resolved optical instrumentation.

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve advanced optical measurement methodologies, including photoluminescence (PL), electroluminescence (EL), time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC), Hanbury Brown-Twiss (HBT) interferometry for g²(0) measurements, fluorescence lifetime analysis, and quantum efficiency characterization.

  • Investigate fundamental carrier transport, exciton formation, recombination dynamics, photon antibunching, emission coherence, Purcell enhancement, and light-matter interactions to establish performance-limiting mechanisms and guide device optimization.

  • Publish research findings in leading international journals and present results at prestigious international conferences.

  • Contribute to competitive grant proposals, technical reporting, project management, equipment procurement, laboratory management, and compliance with laboratory safety regulations.

  • Mentor graduate students, research assistants, and junior researchers, while fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Optical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, or a related discipline.

  • Strong hands-on experience in optical and electrical characterization of semiconductor/optoelectronic devices, including PL, EL, spectroscopy, and time-resolved measurements.

  • Experience in designing, setting up, commissioning, and operating advanced ultrafast optical instrumentation and characterization systems.

  • Experience with TCSPC, FLIM, transient absorption spectroscopy, quantum yield measurements, and single-photon characterization techniques (including g²(0) and HBT interferometry) is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of quantum optoelectronics, quantum light sources, excitonic materials, colloidal quantum wells, quantum dots, optical cavities, or integrated photonic devices is an advantage.

  • Strong publication record in high-impact peer-reviewed journals with excellent scientific communication and technical writing skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary research teams, with strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of quantum optoelectronics, excitonic devices, or single-photon sources is an advantage.

  • Proven track record of high-quality publications and strong scientific communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience independently designing, setting up, and operating ultrafast/time-resolved optical instrumentation, including fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM), transient absorption spectroscopy, TCSPC-based lifetime studies, and quantum yield measurement systems, is highly valued.

We regret to inform you that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
