Are you an experienced surgical Registered Nurse ready to advance your career within a progressive, research-driven hospital environment? Macquarie University Hospital is seeking motivated, efficient and proactive Registered Nurses to join The Orthopaedic Institute (TOI) in Ward 5 on a permanent full-time basis. 

This is an excellent opportunity to deliver specialist orthopaedic surgical care within Australia's only university-owned academic hospital, working alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team committed to exceptional patient outcomes and informed by world-renowned research and continuous learning.

About the Role 

The Registered Nurse is an integral member of the multidisciplinary health care team, meeting the diverse needs of patients using contemporary professional best practice standards. You will apply advanced risk assessments, plan interventions, and deliver care that is safe, appropriate and clinically effective. 

These positions require high flexibility and availability, as the successful candidates will be placed on a rotating roster across any day of the week (weekends included) and across shifts. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Providing care in accordance with documented care or treatment plans, while prioritising workload based on patient needs, acuity and the optimal time for intervention. 

  • Ensuring all documentation is accurate and completed in a professional and timely manner, in accordance with MQ University Health policy. 

  • Participating in the identification, design and implementation of quality improvement activities, including policy review and development, both self-initiated and directed by other members of MQ University Health. 

  • Demonstrating a willingness to work positively within a team to achieve team goals and the provision of excellence in care and service delivery.

About You 

You are a clinically skilled and proactive Registered Nurse with a strong surgical background. You bring confidence in advanced risk assessment, clinical decision-making and patient-centred care, and you offer the flexibility and adaptability needed to thrive across a rotating roster within a dynamic acute surgical environment. 

Selection Criteria 

  • Surgical nursing experience essential. Orthopaedic surgical nursing preferred, however experience in acute surgical highly regarded 

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). 

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with a proven ability to prioritise and multitask in a fast-paced environment and during critical incidents. 

  • High flexibility and availability to work a variety of rotating shifts across any day of the week, including weekends. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and exercise independent professional judgement and critical thinking. 

  • Well-developed computer skills, including the use of electronic medical records systems, Microsoft Word, Excel and web-based research.
