The Producer/Editor, NFL Game Cutdown is responsible for transforming full-length NFL game broadcasts into condensed programming formats that fit designated broadcast windows while maintaining the integrity, excitement, and storytelling of the game. This role combines editorial decision-making, live sports production knowledge, and advanced non-linear editing skills to deliver compelling game presentations that meet network programming requirements and commercial inventory obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit full NFL game broadcasts into condensed versions for television, digital, and on-demand distribution.
  • Reduce game runtimes to fit specified broadcast windows while preserving the most important gameplay, storylines, and key moments.
  • Remove non-essential content, including:
  • Commercial breaks, Extended downtime between plays, Extended downtime between plays, Excessive replay sequences, Extended downtime between plays, Excessive replay sequences
  • Extended downtime between plays, Excessive replay sequences, Lengthy officiating delays, Non-critical pregame, halftime, and postgame elements as directed
  • Maintain proper pacing and continuity throughout the edited broadcast.
  • Ensure all scoring plays, major momentum shifts, significant player performances, penalties with game impact, and critical coaching decisions are retained.
  • Build edits that accommodate required commercial inventory and network formatting standards.
  • Collaborate with producers, programming, operations, and commercial scheduling teams to ensure final runtimes meet exact broadcast requirements.
  • Verify editorial accuracy, game flow, graphics continuity, and audio quality.
  • Deliver completed programs within established production deadlines.
  • Troubleshoot timing issues and make last-minute adjustments as needed to meet air schedules.
  • Maintain consistency with ESPN editorial standards and content guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience editing sports content, preferably NFL or live-event programming.
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Strong understanding of NFL rules, game structure, and storytelling.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced broadcast environment.
  • Strong editorial judgment and decision-making abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience producing or editing condensed sports broadcasts, highlight shows, or replay programming.
  • Familiarity with broadcast traffic, commercial formatting, and program timing requirements.
  • Experience working with network sports production teams.
  • Knowledge of sports metadata, logging systems, and archive workflows.
The pay rate for this role in Los Angeles, CA is $25.27 to $34.74 per hour. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
