Railcar Repair & Welding Technician

Starting Salary: $46,800/year; higher salary available depending on experience
Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled Railcar Repair & Welding Technician to perform mechanical repair, welding, and fabrication work on freight railcars. This role supports railroad operations and requires a strong focus on safety, quality, and reliable field service.
Because this is an emergency-response position, employees must be willing to work on-call and respond to assignments during nights, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
Repair, maintain, weld, and fabricate components on freight railcars.
Inspect and prepare vehicles, tools, equipment, and materials before and after assignments.
Participate in job briefings and follow established safety practices.
Work closely with crew members to complete repair and field assignments safely and efficiently.
Maintain professional communication with coworkers and customers.
Keep vehicles, tools, equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and properly stocked.
Complete required job records and documentation accurately.
Follow all applicable safety procedures, operating policies, and work requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
AWS welding certification required.
Welding and fabrication experience with strong technical knowledge.
Familiarity with freight car components and the AAR Field Manual.
Knowledge of railroad safety requirements, including Blue Flag Law and FRA standards.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Strong teamwork, communication, and workplace professionalism.
Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, including CPR, First Aid, E-Rail Safe, and CSX On-Track Safety.
Work Conditions
Available for 24/7 emergency call-outs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Willingness to travel and work at changing job locations.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Able to stand, walk on uneven surfaces, bend, lift, and carry materials.
Able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.; heavier items require assistance.
Extended hours may be necessary depending on emergency and operational needs.
