About this Radiation Therapist Lead role at The Specialty Alliance
Phoenix Cyberknife & Arizona Radiation Therapy Specialist is seeking for a Lead Radiation Therapist
The Lead Radiation Therapist is responsible for overseeing the daily clinical operations of the radiation therapy department while providing direct patient care and treatment delivery. This role serves as a clinical leader and resource for radiation therapists, nursing, and support staff to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient treatment delivery in compliance with physician directives, regulatory standards, and organizational policies.
The Lead Radiation Therapist supports workflow optimization, staff scheduling, quality assurance initiatives, patient satisfaction, and collaboration among multidisciplinary teams. This position promotes a positive work environment focused on excellence in patient care, teamwork, safety, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver radiation therapy treatments accurately and safely according to physician prescriptions and treatment plans.
- Operate and maintain radiation therapy equipment, including Ethos adaptive therapy, Bravos HDR, Siemens CT simulation
- Manage theranostics program
- Perform daily machine warm-up, quality assurance checks, and safety procedures as required.
- Verify patient setup, immobilization, and treatment parameters prior to treatment delivery.
- Monitor patients during treatment and respond appropriately to patient needs or emergencies.
- Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record and record & verify systems.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily therapist workflow and treatment schedules to ensure efficient patient throughput.
- Serve as the primary clinical resource and mentor for radiation therapists and support staff.
- Assist with orientation, onboarding, training, and competency validation of new staff members.
- Promote adherence to departmental policies, safety standards, and best practices.
- Assist leadership with staffing schedules, PTO coordination, and coverage planning.
- Support performance improvement initiatives and participate in departmental meetings.
- Assist in identifying workflow challenges and implementing operational improvements.
- Facilitate communication between physicians, nursing, dosimetry, physics, and front office staff.
Quality and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, ARRT, and radiation safety regulations.
- Participate in chart checks, incident reporting, and quality assurance programs.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times.
- Assist with accreditation readiness and regulatory inspections.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
- Current ARRT certification in Radiation Therapy [RT(T)] required.
- Current state licensure as required.
- Current BLS certification required.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of radiation therapy experience preferred.
- Prior leadership, charge therapist, or mentoring experience preferred.
- Experience with Varian, Aria, Ethos, VisionRT, or similar systems preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of radiation therapy principles, treatment delivery, and patient care standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and function effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Commitment to patient-centered care and teamwork.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to assist patients with positioning and transfers as needed.
- Ability to lift and move equipment or supplies within departmental guidelines.
Work Environment
This position works in a clinical radiation therapy environment with exposure to radiation-producing equipment. Appropriate radiation safety training and monitoring are required.
