Job Title: R&D Principal Technologist, Product Development

Location: Bangalore
Employment Type: Regular, full-time, hybrid work arrangement

The Job

At AVEVA, we’re looking for an experienced R&D Principal Technologist to join the Predictive Analytics product team. This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role focused on designing and evolving enterprise software that works with large-scale industrial and time-series datasets, delivers advanced analytics, and provides rich web-based user experiences.

The role requires strong full-stack engineering expertise across C#/.NET and modern JavaScript/TypeScript technologies, including Angular, combined with experience building scalable, high-performance applications that process and present large volumes of data.

You will provide technical direction across the product lifecycle, lead complex feature development and architectural decisions, and collaborate with Product Management, Architecture, QA, DevOps, and other R&D teams. You will operate at both the strategic and hands-on engineering levels—shaping technical direction while remaining close to the code.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve the architecture and technical direction for Predictive Analytics, with a focus on scalability, performance, security, maintainability, and modernization.
  • Lead the design and hands-on development of complex features spanning C#/.NET backend services, APIs, data processing, and Angular-based user interfaces.
  • Design solutions capable of efficiently handling large-scale datasets and high-volume time-series data.
  • Drive performance engineering across the data, backend/API, and UI layers, applying techniques such as query optimization, caching, pagination, asynchronous processing, batching, and efficient data transfer.
  • Design and evolve distributed and cloud-connected solutions using appropriate patterns including microservices, event-driven architecture, asynchronous messaging, resiliency patterns, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
  • Drive product modernization and evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and architectural approaches through technical discovery and proof-of-concepts.
  • Champion engineering excellence through strong practices in software design, code quality, automated testing, security, observability, and CI/CD.
  • Lead technically complex initiatives, identify and mitigate technical risks, and coordinate dependencies across teams and shared platforms.
  • Partner with Product Owners and R&D leadership on backlog shaping, estimation, technical roadmaps, and delivery planning.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, promote knowledge sharing, and raise the technical capability of the broader engineering team.
  • Contribute to production readiness, performance diagnostics, troubleshooting, release risk assessment, and continuous improvement.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of professional software development experience delivering enterprise software products.
  • Strong hands-on experience with C#/.NET, including enterprise applications, APIs, and services.
  • Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and Angular for modern enterprise web application development.
  • Proven full-stack development experience across backend, frontend, APIs, and supporting services.
  • Strong experience designing applications that process large-scale datasets, with an understanding of data access performance, scalability, memory utilization, and efficient data processing.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, clean architecture, API design, and distributed systems.
  • Experience designing scalable and resilient systems using concepts such as microservices, asynchronous/event-driven architectures, and fault-tolerance patterns.
  • Working knowledge of cloud-native application development, including Docker, Kubernetes/AKS, and service-based deployment architectures.
  • Strong understanding of modern engineering practices including automated testing, Git, CI/CD, Azure DevOps, secure development, and observability.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, with the ability to lead complex initiatives, influence technical decisions, and mentor engineers.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience building data-intensive, analytics-driven, or time-series applications where data volume, processing performance, and UI responsiveness are critical.
  • Experience optimizing performance across data access, APIs, backend processing, caching, and frontend rendering.
  • Experience working with on-premises, cloud, and hybrid architectures.
  • Familiarity with Azure services and technologies such as Azure Service Bus, Azure Key Vault, AKS, and related cloud services.
  • Experience with modern authentication and authorization patterns such as OIDC and JWT.
  • Experience modernizing monolithic enterprise applications toward modern .NET, Angular, microservices, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Strong understanding of software security, dependency management, vulnerability remediation, and secure development lifecycle practices.
  • Experience with technical discovery, prototyping, and evaluating architectural and technology trade-offs.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot and their responsible use for development, testing, documentation, and developer productivity.
  • Experience with industrial analytics, process data, historian platforms, time-series data, or other data-intensive industrial software is an advantage.
  • Experience working with geographically distributed Agile/Scrum product development teams.
