About this QA Engineer role at Tomax Think Academy
Since 2004 Tomax has created cutting-edge digital solutions for higher education.
We specialize in the end-to-end management of the entire exam and assessment lifecycle.
Our software empowers universities and colleges to efficiently, effectively, and expertly prepare, manage, grade, review, control, and secure the exam and assessment process.
We are seeking a forward-thinking Quality Engineer to own end-to-end reliability for Tomax products. In this role, you will be embedded in the product development lifecycle from requirement gathering through production release.
Instead of relying solely on traditional manual testing, you will leverage our engineering team's existing AI-native ecosystem (Claude Code CLI, Gemini) to accelerate test execution. You will turn product domain knowledge into AI-assisted test suites, auto-generated edge-case models, and root-cause analyses, serving as the ultimate owner of Tomax quality
Requirements
Full Product Ownership: Become the ultimate domain expert on all Tomax applications, owning quality across functional, edge-case, and user-experience vectors.
Requirements & Spec Reviews: Evaluate functional specs and technical architecture early in the process to catch logic gaps, integration risks, and edge cases before dev starts.
AI-Native Test Execution: Use command-line AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Gemini) to rapidly draft, maintain, and run automated test scripts, mock datasets, and validation suites.
Complex Bug Investigation: Replicate and isolate tricky multi-system customer bugs using logs, database queries, and AI-assisted root-cause analysis
Quality Standards & Process: Establish best practices for the team, tracking release readiness, quality metrics, and production stability.
AI Tool Fluency: Direct experience or strong willingness to work with CLI-based AI dev tools like Claude Code or Gemini to query codebases, write validation scripts, and debug.
Technical Fundamentals: Ability to read code (JavaScript, Python, or similar), interact with REST APIs, and write simple database queries (SQL). You don't need to be a senior dev, but you must be comfortable working in a terminal/code environment.
Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Excellent analytical skills, high attention to detail, and comfort managing high rates of context-switching in an agile environment.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate directly with product managers, developers, and customer support.
Preferred / Bonus Qualifications
- Experience using markdown files (e.g., CLAUDE.md) or system prompts to teach AI assistants product-specific validation rules.
- Familiarity with API testing tools (Postman, Bruno, or curl).
