Join Australia's Leading Industrial Refrigeration Team

At Johnson Controls (JCI), we're transforming how the world manages energy, buildings, and critical industrial operations. As a global leader in smart buildings, thermal management, energy efficiency, and decarbonisation, we help customers operate more efficiently, reduce carbon emissions, and build resilient, future-ready facilities across data centres, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, higher education, and critical infrastructure.

With more than 140 years of innovation, JCI delivers industry-leading technology, lifecycle services, and technical expertise that help customers solve complex operational challenges while creating safer and more sustainable environments.

As part of the JCI family, Gordon Brothers Industries (GBI) is Australia's largest industrial refrigeration company, with more than a century of experience delivering world-class refrigeration and process cooling solutions. Operating across every mainland state, GBI partners with some of Australia's most recognised organisations in food and beverage manufacturing, cold storage, mining, chemical processing, and industrial production.

Why Join Gordon Brothers?

This is an opportunity to work on some of Australia's most complex and technically challenging industrial refrigeration projects while contributing to the transition to more sustainable, energy-efficient industries.

Based in Sydney, you'll join a highly experienced team delivering end-to-end projects, from concept and design through to commissioning and handover. You'll have the opportunity to work with leading industrial clients, cutting-edge refrigeration technologies, and large-scale projects that make a real impact on operational performance and decarbonisation goals.

Whether you're currently working in industrial refrigeration, HVAC, building services, controls, mechanical, electrical, or oil & gas industries, this role offers a unique opportunity to broaden your expertise and work with the market leader.

The Role

As a Project Engineer, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of industrial refrigeration and process cooling projects across the food & beverage, mining, chemical, and industrial sectors.

You will be responsible for managing project deliverables, coordinating installation and commissioning activities, maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Working alongside industry experts, you'll help design and implement innovative refrigeration and energy-transfer systems that support customers in achieving their operational and sustainability objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver industrial refrigeration and sustainability-focused projects
  • Support the design, installation, commissioning, and handover of refrigeration systems
  • Drive project outcomes to ensure delivery on time and within budget
  • Coordinate internal and external project resources to achieve key milestones
  • Monitor project financial performance and maintain accurate forecasting
  • Provide regular project updates to customers and senior leadership
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and contractors
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational efficiencies
  • Champion a strong safety culture across all project activities

About You

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Project engineering or project management experience within industrial, mechanical, refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, controls, or related industries
  • Strong technical problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience supporting installation, commissioning, or maintenance activities
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship skills
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach
  • Ability to travel to customer and project sites when required
  • A strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement

Industrial refrigeration experience is highly regarded; however, we also welcome applications from engineers and project professionals looking to transition from HVAC, building services, oil & gas, manufacturing, process engineering, electrical, or control systems backgrounds.

What's on Offer?

  • Join Australia's largest industrial refrigeration company
  • Work on major industrial projects across Australia
  • Career development opportunities within both GBI and Johnson Controls
  • Exposure to leading refrigeration, sustainability, and decarbonisation technologies
  • Collaborative team culture with experienced industry professionals
  • Competitive remuneration package and long-term career opportunities
