State Street · Hybrid · Milan, Italy

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager, Assistant Vice President, reporting to the Head of Project Management Office, Italy, within the wider State Street Bank International (SSBI) Business Projects and Transformation team. You will be accountable for the end-to-end delivery of complex strategic, regulatory, risk-remediation and transformation initiatives across SSBI and the Italian Branch.

Why this role is important to us

You will be joining the Investment Services function that allows us to deliver a comprehensive, holistic approach to each client relationship — for asset managers and asset owners, insurance companies, and official institutions globally. It means our client-facing functions work together to bring the very best solutions and services the firm has to offer — across all of our locations, products, and capabilities.

Join us if making your mark on the long-lasting client relationships we build is a challenge you are up for.

What you will be responsible for

As a Senior Project Manager, Assistant Vice President, you will:

  • Lead complex initiatives – including regulatory, internal audit and risk remediation projects, client commitments and system migrations – from initiation and planning through delivery and execution, closure and handover to accountable business owners
  • Define project scope, objectives, plan, deliverables, and success measures, identifying resource and budget requirements and budget, managing dependencies across business, technology, risk and control functions, global teams and other SSBI locations
  • Establish and ensure effective project governance: lead working groups and Steering Committees and provide requested reporting to local and SSBI governance bodies
  • Proactively identify and manage risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies, defining corrective actions and escalating in a timely manner when needed
  • Manage stakeholder alignment and project communications, challenge constructively where required, and secure clear ownership and timely decisions
  • Formalize deliverables approval and project closure, documenting residual risks, success measures and benefits and summarizing lessons learned
  • Maintain accurate and auditable project records in accordance with the SSBI project management framework, information-classification requirements and applicable record-retention standards
  • undefined
  • Support demand and portfolio management by assessing new requests, clarifying outcomes and dependencies, and contributing to sizing, capacity assessment and prioritisation
  • Promote project management best practices, support colleagues in the adoption of methodologies and tools, and contribute to the continuous improvement of PM procedures

What we value

These skills will help you succeed in this role

·          Structured and pragmatic approach to planning and delivery, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives and balance competing priorities

·          Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to engage senior management and produce executive level materials

·          Sound critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills, with a risk-aware mindset

·          Proven experience in managing end-to-end complex, multi-location projects in a matrix organization, ideally regulatory, remediation or transformation programs in financial services

·          Ownership, autonomy and a collaborative attitude, with the ability to see the big picture while keeping focus on detail

·          Strong leadership skills, team player and able to work across geographies and cultures

Education & Preferred Qualifications

·          Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Engineering or a related discipline

·          At least 10 years of relevant project management experience, in banking, asset servicing or similar

  • Working knowledge of predictive, agile and hybrid delivery approaches; a project management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent qualification is an advantage
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Excel and PowerPoint, and experience with project planning, collaboration and portfolio management tools; practical AI literacy and familiarity with generative AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, applied responsibly in line with internal data, confidentiality and AI-use requirements
  • Fluency in Italian and English, written and spoken

Additional requirements

  • Knowledge of custody, depositary bank and fund administration services is desirable
  • Familiarity with the European banking regulatory framework (e.g. ECB, Bank of Italy, EBA guidelines, DORA) is a plus
  • Experience working with first and second-line risk and control functions, Internal Audit, regulators or external auditors is considered an advantage
