Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, we are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our Melbourne team.

About the Role

As a Project Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, delivery, commissioning, and ongoing support of industrial refrigeration systems and associated process equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Deliver detailed engineering calculations and design solutions for industrial refrigeration and compression systems.

• Develop estimates and proposals for both minor and major capital projects.

• Prepare technical tender submissions in accordance with client specifications and deadlines.

• Evaluate existing refrigeration plants and identify opportunities for optimisation, upgrades, and plant improvements.

• Manage project delivery from concept through to commissioning, including procurement, supplier management, scheduling, and cost control.

• Coordinate multidisciplinary project resources to ensure successful project outcomes.

• Undertake engineering audits, safety reviews, and refrigeration system assessments, preparing detailed client reports and recommendations.

• Ensure compliance with relevant Australian and international industry standards.

• Prepare risk assessments and promote a strong safety culture across projects and site activities.

• Support plant commissioning, testing, and performance verification activities.

• Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).

• Produce technical drawings and documentation using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and other engineering design tools.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and project delivery functions.

• Mentor graduate engineers and provide technical guidance to internal teams and customers.

• Build trusted, long-term relationships with customers while acting as a key technical representative of GBI and Johnson Controls.

About You

We're looking for an engineer who combines strong technical capability with practical project delivery experience.

You will ideally have:

• Degree qualifications in Mechanical, Process, Electrical, Chemical, or a related Engineering discipline.

• Experience delivering engineering design and project execution within industrial refrigeration, compression, process engineering, or rotating equipment environments.

• Strong knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems, ammonia refrigeration, process cooling, or related heavy industrial applications.

• Proven experience managing engineering projects from concept through commissioning.

• Exposure to industries such as food processing, cold storage, petrochemical, oil and gas, mining, manufacturing, or industrial processing.

• Experience conducting FATs, SATs, and commissioning activities.

• Ability to interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings, and design documentation.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.

• AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks experience highly regarded.

• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

• A team-focused mindset with a passion for delivering quality outcomes.
