A Glimpse of the Job

We are seeking a dedicated Program Coordinator II to play a key role in the implementation of activities related to Texas Target Communities (TxTC). In this dynamic position, you'll coordinate the planning, development, and delivery of community-focused initiatives. This role will require travel so you can engage directly with small urban and rural communities and work to support meaningful outreach, relationship building, and partnership opportunities. Salary: $55,000 - $65,000

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Four years of related experience related area such as community planning, communication, or organization.

Required Licenses and Certifications: 

  • State of Texas Class “C” Driver License or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

A well-qualified candidate will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, Public Administration, Communications or related discipline.

  • Master’s degree in urban planning, Communications, or associated discipline.

  • Bilingual in Spanish

  • American Institute of Certified Planners, Certified Floodplain Manager, Geographic Information Systems Professional. Working knowledge of Texas planning issues. One to three years of planning experience in Texas.

  • Experience with facilitating community meetings. Demonstrated ability to interact with communities, resource managers, policy, and decisionmakers. Interdisciplinary thinking and successful track record working in areas that complement the research and outreach interests of Texas Target Communities.

  • Good public speaking and presentation skills.

  • Experience with conflict resolution.

  • Experience working with ArcGIS Adobe Suite.

  • Some experience in office administration or project management.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Advanced proficiency in writing and copy editing.

Essential Duties/Tasks

Program Coordination

  • Coordinates activities and programs in 5-7 locations. Coordinates programs to assist selected Texas communities in identifying risks to the economy, environment, and culture and aiding in the development of high quality and effective short and long-term plans.

  • Plans and implements efforts to help communities assess community planning efforts, identify weaknesses within plans, and aid communities in improving those plans and, therefore, increasing community resilience. Coordinates project management activities in small urban and rural communities.

  • Provides hands-on technical assistance to communities and facilitates planning processes that lack planning capacity.

  • Works directly with community partners and community task forces to identify needs and determine actions steps forward.

  • Works directly with faculty to facilitate community engagement workshops on visioning, goal setting, needs assessments, etc.

  • Responds to inquiries regarding program offerings.

Outreach and Communications

  • Conducts in-person outreach activities in 5-7 locations.

  • Provides technical assistance that supports the goals of TxTC. Organizes, implements, and reports on programs/projects including marketing, accommodations, itineraries, meals, speakers, and records.

  • Travels to community events, presentations, etc.

  • Creates program outreach materials including publications, guidebooks, and podcasts.

  • Develops and updates training materials. Writes and edits products and compiles into user-friendly format.


Administrative

  • Performs administrative tasks as required to carry out research and outreach duties.

  • Maintains program records, reports, and databases.

  • Compiles program statistics. Assists in the evaluation of TxTC programs. Monitors program budget and expenditures. Assist in other administrative duties as needed.
