Job Title

Principal Electrical Engineer- Medical Device

Job Description

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will be part of the multidisciplinary IntraSight Hardware Team, contributing to innovative imaging clinical solutions.

You will serve as the key technical interface between Philips and external suppliers, design partners, and contract manufacturers for PCBA development, ensuring high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective electronic designs that meet performance, safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Your role

  • Serve as the primary electrical engineering interface to suppliers, design partners, and contract manufacturers, providing technical leadership for PCBA design, development, prototyping, and industrialization. Drive alignment on electrical requirements, schematics, PCB layout, architecture, acceptance criteria, timelines, cost, and quality.
  • Lead supplier selection, technical evaluations, design reviews, and issue resolution in partnership with sourcing, procurement, and cross-functional engineering teams. Review and approve schematics, PCB layouts, and design documentation to ensure alignment with Philips standards and system architecture.
  • Drive design for manufacturability (DFM), design for testability (DFT), design for cost (DFC), and component selection strategies while considering availability, lifecycle, obsolescence, and overall product cost. Manage supplier change requests and mitigate component and PCBA lifecycle risks.
  • Oversee PCBA verification and validation, including functional, signal integrity, power integrity, electrical safety, and EMC testing, ensuring compliance with applicable medical device standards such as IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2. Partner with quality and regulatory teams to ensure suppliers meet required quality systems, documentation, and regulatory expectations.
  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of electrical and PCBA-related issues throughout development and sustaining phases, including manufacturing defects and field returns. Collaborate with systems, mechanical, software, quality, regulatory, and procurement teams to ensure successful integrated product development.

You're the right fit if:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with 10+ years of electrical engineering experience and a strong focus on PCBA design and development. Demonstrated expertise in schematic design, PCB layout, board-level architecture, and electronics manufacturing.
  • Proven experience working directly with suppliers, EMS partners, and contract manufacturers, including leading technical discussions, supplier evaluations, design reviews, and development activities. Strong ability to manage external partners while balancing technical, cost, quality, and business priorities.
  • Strong knowledge of DFM, DFT, DFC, signal integrity, power integrity, EMC, and electrical testing, validation, and verification. Experience with component lifecycle management, obsolescence mitigation, and root cause analysis is highly valued.
  • Experience developing medical devices or other regulated products, with a strong understanding of standards such as IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, and ISO 13485. Familiarity with EDA tools such as Altium, Cadence, or Mentor Graphics and PLM systems such as Windchill is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence suppliers and cross-functional teams. A proactive, ownership-driven mindset and the ability to lead complex technical issues from development through sustaining are essential.
  • You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position.
