Job Description:

Reuters is seeking a Polling Correspondent to join its global polling team, which produces market-leading forecasts and exclusive stories on economic and financial-market developments across 50 key economies. This is an exciting early-career opportunity for a journalist to turn insights from economists, analysts, polling data and fast-moving events into accurate, timely reporting used by market participants, LSEG clients and policymakers around the world.

Reporting to Hari Kishan, Editor In Charge, you will collaborate with colleagues across Reuters' globally distributed polling team. You will contribute to regular and ad hoc polls covering central-bank decisions, macroeconomic indicators, inflation, growth, unemployment, foreign exchange, bond yields and equity markets, while helping deliver high-quality journalism that informs a global audience.

Relocation support is available, but the role doesn’t require travel.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning, execution, and analysis of regular and ad hoc Reuters polls on macroeconomic trends, financial markets and central-bank policy, helping ensure timely and reliable results.

  • Monitor economic data releases, market-moving events, and central-bank decisions to identify timely polling opportunities and develop strong story angles.

  • Analyze poll findings alongside relevant economic and market developments to produce accurate, concise and insightful stories for Reuters' global audience.

  • Build and maintain professional relationships with economists, analysts and other relevant sources to strengthen Reuters' polling panels and reporting expertise.

  • Contribute ideas for survey questions, data-driven analysis and enterprise stories that maximize the value and impact of Reuters' exclusive poll results.

  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across locations and time zones to meet deadlines, support global coverage and maintain high editorial standards.

  • Use approved AI and digital tools to improve reporting workflows, data analysis, polling processes and storytelling while adhering to Reuters standards for accuracy and impartiality.

  • Editorial Judgment and Accuracy: Applies sound news judgment and handles economic, market and polling information with care, precision and impartiality.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, journalism, or a related field, with one to two years of experience as a journalist, reporter or correspondent.

  • Strong writing, reporting and news judgment, with a demonstrated commitment to accuracy, fairness and impartiality.

  • Interest in, or basic knowledge of, economics, financial markets and central-bank policy.

  • Microsoft Excel - Intermediate proficiency, including the ability to organize, analyze and interpret data using spreadsheets.

  • Comfort working with data and translating polling results, economic indicators and market developments into clear journalistic insights.

  • Strong verbal communication skills and confidence engaging with economists, analysts and other professional sources.

  • Ability to manage competing deadlines, work effectively in a collaborative global environment and work the assigned rotational shift schedule.

  • Editorial Judgment and Accuracy: Applies sound news judgment and handles economic, market and polling information with care, precision and impartiality.

  • Analytical Thinking: Interprets data, poll results and market developments to identify meaningful trends and reporting opportunities.

  • Clear Communication: Produces concise, accessible stories and communicates professionally with sources and colleagues.

  • Collaboration and Global Mindset: Works effectively with colleagues across geographies, cultures and time zones.

  • Adaptability and Deadline Discipline: Responds effectively to breaking developments, changing priorities, rotational shifts and evolving newsroom tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience reporting on macroeconomics, financial markets and/or central-bank policy.

  • Prior experience conducting, supporting or analyzing polls, surveys or other structured data-collection projects

  • Python — Basic proficiency, particularly for data analysis, data cleaning or reporting-related workflows.

  • Familiarity with using AI-enabled tools responsibly to support research, data analysis, reporting or storytelling.
