This role requires an officer who understands that effective campus policing is about more than enforcement. It requires building relationships, providing service, communicating effectively, responding appropriately during emergencies, and treating every member of the community with dignity and respect.

Starting Pay: $28.85 per hour

IMPORTANT: Applicants must currently hold a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer license or must be TCOLE certified before their first day of employment.

What You’ll Do

As a Police Officer with Trinity University, you will:

  • Patrol the Trinity University campus by vehicle, bicycle, and on foot.

  • Respond to calls for service and provide assistance to students, employees, and visitors.

  • Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations involving criminal and non-criminal incidents occurring on University property.

  • Preserve the peace and protect life and property using lawful, professional, and appropriate policing practices.

  • Enforce applicable federal, state, and local laws, including traffic laws and regulations.

  • Conduct traffic stops and issue warnings or citations when appropriate.

  • Make arrests and take individuals into custody when circumstances and applicable law require.

  • Help ensure University buildings, facilities, and property remain safe and secure.

  • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely police reports and other required documentation.

  • Provide information, assistance, and directions to members of the University community and campus visitors.

  • Respond quickly and exercise sound judgment during emergency and high-pressure situations.

  • Work collaboratively with fellow officers, University departments, and external law enforcement and emergency response partners.

  • Follow Trinity University policies, departmental procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

Successful Trinity University Police Officers demonstrate:

  • Professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • The ability to remain composed and make rational decisions during emergencies and stressful situations.

  • A commitment to treating individuals with dignity and respect.

  • Strong observation, documentation, and report-writing skills.

  • The ability to interpret and appropriately apply laws, policies, procedures, and departmental directives.

  • A service-oriented approach to working within a diverse university community.

  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Current TCOLE Peace Officer license/certification or must be TCOLE certified before their first day of employment.

  • Valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

  • Ability to meet all applicable requirements for employment as a Texas peace officer.

  • Ability to successfully complete Trinity University’s required pre-employment screening and background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.

  • Two or more years of experience in law enforcement, security, criminal justice, or a related field.

  • Previous experience working in a campus, community-oriented, or service-focused policing environment.

Schedule

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position.

Police Officers must be available to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency assignments as required. Because the Trinity University Police Department provides continuous campus coverage, schedules may vary based on departmental and University needs.
