Patient Registrar I - 3 days/wk; 8 hrs/day - btwn 7a-5:30p; Occas. Sat. 8a-12p

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To perform patient registration and scheduling in a busy Breast Center, including obtaining financial and clinical information, insurance data and authorizations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Register and schedule patients efficiently and accurately.
• Obtains identity, insurance and/or workers compensation information
• Answer and route call in a high-volume Breast Center
• Requests and obtains medical records in preparation for patient’s arrival
• Obtains outside studies for comparison for radiologist.
• Connect and resolve outside images sent to the PACS system for providers
• Mail and/or fax or send reports to physician offices
• Responds to requests for urgent or emergency cases working with Nurse Manager, Nurse Navigators and/or technologists.
• Operates computer systems and office equipment in a safe manner.
• Interacts for solution of “routine problems” as they may occur to achieve customer satisfaction.
• Interacts with patients, family members, physicians, and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
• Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
• Performs other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of two years of experience in a healthcare, financial, or customer service environment preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

NOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge of hospital and/or office radiology, clerical and billing procedures/functions including related equipment use and operation.
• Knowledge of computer scheduling for multiple providers.
• Knowledge of clerical methods and techniques.
• Knowledge of office equipment and machines.
• Knowledge of criteria for safe scheduling parameters when needed.
• Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
• Ability to plan, organize, and handle various tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to function independently, set work schedules and short-term goals to maximize productivity.
• Ability to establish and maintain superior quality customer relations with patients, patients’ families, Christiana Care staff, visitors, insurance companies, physicians, and the public.
