Part Time Mother’s Helper– Downtown Manhattan, NY

A busy, dual-career family in Downtown Manhattan NY 10282 is seeking a reliable, proactive Mother’s Helper to assist with afternoon childcare and light household organization. This role is ideal for an organized, supportive caregiver looking to help manage daily afternoon routines for two children (ages 6 and 12).

Schedule:

• Days: Monday through Friday (Family is open to 4 days per week for the right candidate)
• Hours: Approximately 2 to 3 hours per day, typically between 4:00 PM and 6:30 PM
• Flexibility: Occasional schedule shifts needed based on family schedule (e.g., shifts like 4:30 PM–8:30 PM or 2:30 PM–6:00 PM)

Family Specifications:

• Active household with a 6-year-old in 1st grade and a 12-year-old in 7th grade
• Mother works from home on Monday and Friday
• Family employs a dedicated house cleaner for deep cleaning
• Family values a positive, communicative, and collaborative partnership with their caregiver
• Smoke Free home
• Pet free home

Responsibilities:

• Walk to pick up the 6-year-old from an after-school program nearby at 5:30 PM
• Engage the 6-year-old with energetic, creative activities and local park outings
• Provide light homework assistance (Math, English) to the 12-year-old if requested
• Arrive prior to school pickup to assist with household reset duties
• Change children's bed linens weekly and handle laundry
• Unpack and organize grocery deliveries
• Tidy the kitchen and manage daily household clutter
• Assist with simple meal preparation or heating dinner for the children

Requirements:

• Proven experience in childcare, particularly with early elementary-aged children
• Ability to manage both household support tasks and active childcare efficiently
• Strong organizational skills and proactive initiative
• Must be able to reliably commute
• Highly dependable and punctual, especially for after-school pick-ups and afternoon routines

Preferred: 

• Experience or confidence assisting with 7th-grade homework

Compensation:

• $29 - $31 per hour
