Department: Pre-College

Reports To: Adult Education Supervisor

LOCATION:  Green Bay, WI

STANDARD HOURS:  12 hours per week. Monday - Friday variable daytime and evening hours

PAY RATE: $18.50 per hour

This position is grant-funded through June 30, 2027

POSITION SUMMARY

The GED/HSED Student Ambassador supports student outreach, recruitment, engagement, and retention efforts within the Adult Education program. Drawing from personal experience, the ambassador serves as a relatable peer mentor who inspires prospective and current students to pursue and persist in their educational goals. This role provides evening program support, contributes to student success initiatives, and strengthens connections between the college and the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Student Outreach & Recruitment

  • Share personal educational journey and success story to encourage enrollment in GED/HSED programs

  • Participate in evening orientations and Jump Start sessions to engage prospective students and answer questions

  • Conduct follow-up communication (calls, texts, emails) with prospective students to support enrollment

  • Assist with or lead enrollment events, open houses, and recruitment activities, including those scheduled during flexible or non-standard hours

Student Support & Retention

  • Conduct regular check-ins with current students, with an emphasis on those at risk of disengagement or withdrawal

  • Provide encouragement, motivation, and accountability to help students stay on track with their goals

  • Support instructors by identifying and reaching out to disengaged or struggling students

  • Foster a sense of connection and belonging among program participants

Evening Class Support

  • Welcome students and help create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

  • Serve as a resource for students during evening hours, connecting them to college services and supports

  • Facilitate informal goal-setting and progress check-ins with students

  • Act as a consistent point of contact when other campus services may be unavailable

Community Engagement and Partnerships

  • Represent the college at community events, including visits to community centers, churches, workforce agencies, and cultural organizations

  • Support or co-facilitate community-based orientations and informational sessions

  • Serve as a liaison for students transitioning from community-based programs or partnerships into campus-based programming

  • Build and maintain relationships with organizations that support underrepresented and adult learner populations

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • General Education Diploma (GED®) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED)

Experience

  • One year of recruitment, customer service, administrative assistant or related experience

  • Former NWTC GED/HSED student completer and graduate

  • Familiarity with adult education programs and student support services

  • Experience working with or volunteering in community-based organizations

  • Ability to effectively communicate and connect with diverse adult learners

  • Strong interpersonal and motivational skills

  • Basic organizational and follow-up skills

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented populations

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends

Computer Skills

  • Microsoft Office platform to include Work, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams

  • Workday

**An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

Preferred Requirements

Experience

  • Bilingual or multilingual language skills in Spanish
