Part-Time, 10-Month Position | The Spire School | Stamford, CT

As an Art Teacher at The Spire School, you will design and deliver engaging art instruction for students in grades 6–12 with diverse learning profiles and social-emotional needs. You’ll help students strengthen their artistic skills, creativity, confidence, and self-expression through a variety of techniques and media. In this role, you will create a structured and welcoming classroom, adapt instruction to meet individual needs, and collaborate with our multidisciplinary team to support each student’s growth and success..

What You’ll Need

• Plan and deliver engaging art instruction aligned with Connecticut State Standards, incorporating art history and diverse artists, movements, and styles.

• Teach a variety of artistic techniques and media, including drawing, illustration, graphite, charcoal, acrylic and watercolor painting, color theory, composition, and mixed-media projects.

• Differentiate lessons and projects based on students’ individual abilities, interests, learning profiles, and social-emotional needs.

• Create and maintain an organized, welcoming, and visually engaging classroom with clear expectations and appropriate structure.

• Monitor, document, and report student progress while contributing relevant information to the IEP and progress-monitoring processes.

• Build positive relationships with students and help them develop confidence, independence, perseverance, and self-expression through the arts.

• Collaborate closely with teachers, clinicians, school counselors, school leadership, and families to support student success.

• Participate as an active member of The Spire School community and perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.

What You’ll Do

• Deliver adaptive art instruction using research-based practices, modify lessons to meet diverse student needs, and create a positive, inclusive learning environment.

• Develop and maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, and accurate documentation of student progress and skill development.

• Differentiate instruction and implement behavior supports as needed to ensure meaningful and safe participation for all students.

• Collaborate with colleagues, follow school-wide expectations, contribute to non-instructional activities, and communicate effectively with staff and families.

• Integrate technology into instruction, supervise students across various school settings, and perform other duties as assigned to support school and program success.
