JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Position Overview: 

The Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for an Adjunct Faculty in the Doctor of Nursing Practice – Nurse Anesthesia (DNP-NA) Program. We seek a dynamic, clinically experienced Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) with a doctoral degree in nursing and a strong commitment to nurse anesthesia education, clinical excellence, and scholarly engagement. Ideal candidates will contribute to preparing the next generation of CRNA leaders through innovative teaching, simulation-based learning, and active involvement in research or evidence-based practice. The successful candidate will collaborate with the DNP-NA leadership team to foster an inclusive learning environment and support program accreditation, student success, and clinical partnerships. 

 

Job Responsibilities: 

Teaching & Clinical Instruction: 

  • Develop new coursework for the nurse anesthesia program and ensure alignment with Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program Standards on Accreditation 

  • Review and re-align scholarly project coursework to align with DNP-NA program curriculum through focused course development and editing. 

  • Provide high-quality instruction in nurse anesthesia didactic and clinical courses. 

  • Develop and deliver simulation-based learning experiences aligned with program competencies and accreditation standards. 

  • Facilitate student learning in basic sciences, anesthesia principles, scholarly projects, and clinical practicum. 

Scholarship: 

  • Mentor students in the development and implementation of DNP scholarly projects. 

  • Serve on DNP scholarly project committees 

Service & Leadership: 

  • Support student mentorship, academic advising, and professional development. 

  • Contribute to curriculum development, accreditation efforts, and continuous quality improvement. 

  • Support the DNP-NA Admissions process and applicant selection 

Community & Professional Engagement: 

  • Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and well-being in all academic and clinical activities. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, DNP, DNAP, or EdD) in Nursing from an accredited institution. 

  • Current certification or recertification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) by the NBCRNA. 

  • Currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.  

  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience as a CRNA. 

  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and student support in graduate nurse anesthesia education. 
     

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Prior academic teaching experience in a nurse anesthesia program. 

  • Experience in simulation-based instruction and clinical skills education. 

  • Experience mentoring DNP or graduate nursing students.

The Nese College of Nursing is one of the most comprehensive nursing colleges in any public university in the United States. Upon hire, DNP-NA Adjunct Faculty will be required to complete simulation education training unless evidence of prior training has been provided by the applicant. 

 

 

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
