Overhead Crane Operator / Material Handler
Location: Cocoa Beach, FL
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Shifts: 1st and 2nd Shift Available
Starting Pay: $22.00/hour; higher pay available based on experience
2nd Shift Differential: Additional $3.00/hour
Position Overview
We are hiring a versatile Material Handler / Crane Operator to support structural steel operations in both the shop and outdoor yard. This position involves moving and staging steel, loading and unloading materials, operating heavy equipment, and assisting production teams as priorities change.
The ideal candidate is comfortable taking on different tasks throughout the workday and has experience operating overhead cranes and material-handling equipment.
Responsibilities
- Move, stage, load, and unload structural steel and other materials.
- Operate overhead cranes to safely position heavy steel components.
- Use forklifts and Pettibone/telehandler equipment for material transport.
- Assist with yard organization and jockey trailers as needed.
- Prepare and skid materials for shipment.
- Operate production equipment or machinery when needed.
- Clean parts and materials to keep them ready for fabrication or shipment.
- Help track inventory, materials, and supplies.
- Work with shop and outside crews to keep material flowing efficiently.
- Follow equipment operating procedures and all applicable safety requirements.
- Support other departments and take on additional duties as production needs change.
- Maintain reliable attendance and a strong, professional work ethic.
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating overhead cranes.
- Experience with Pettibone/telehandler equipment.
- Material handling or warehouse experience preferred.
- Some experience handling structural steel preferred.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts and other industrial equipment.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, move, and handle heavy materials as required.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Able to manage multiple tasks and adjust to changing priorities.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
- Manufacturing or heavy industrial experience is a plus.
- Willingness to learn new equipment and responsibilities.
