The Role

The Environmental Division at Stafford is seeking an Organic Prep Supervisor to supervise and support the growing Organic Prep team. This role will assist with the smooth day-to-day operation of the section while ensuring production, quality and safety requirements are consistently met.

This opportunity would suit an existing employee looking to take the next step in their career, or a laboratory professional seeking to develop their people-leadership and supervisory skills. The successful candidate will report to the Organic Coordinator and work collaboratively with the broader Organics team.

In addition to leadership responsibilities, the successful candidate will be required to fill production gaps and provide method coverage where necessary.

The Day to Day

The successful applicant will undertake a range of duties, including:

  • Supervise and lead the Organic Prep team, including roster management and supporting one-on-one and performance reviews in collaboration with the Organic Coordinator.
  • Manage staffing levels and daily workflow to optimise productivity, meet due dates, holding times (HT) and turnaround time (TAT) requirements.
  • Develop and implement cross-training plans to build team capability, provide method coverage and minimise production gaps.
  • Oversee quality actions within the Organic Prep section as directed by the Quality Chemist, ensuring adherence to QWI requirements, quality procedures and training compliance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues to maintain production targets, quality standards and efficient workflow.
  • Provide professional leadership and foster a positive, collaborative work environment that supports staff development and high performance.
  • Review performance and set goals for the section to be presented in Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs)
  • Work with Team Leaders and the Organic Coordinator to coordinate and facilitate staff training without compromising production requirements.
  • Monitor absenteeism and adjust resources where required to manage workflow, holding times and TAT compliance.
  • Maintain adequate consumable supplies, minimise downtime and support the smooth day-to-day operation of the section.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE, QA/QC documentation and workplace-record requirements, including participation in safety audits and initiatives.

The Essentials

The successful applicant will possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrated management or team-supervision experience.
  • The ability to maintain positive working relationships, with an adaptable and resilient approach to production management.
  • An innovative and solution-focused mindset, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Two or more years of laboratory experience, preferably within environmental science or environmental testing.
  • A proven track record of maintaining HSE and quality compliance in the workplace.
  • A degree or Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Techniques, or a related discipline, is preferred.
  • Experience working in a production-focused environment is preferred, but not essential.
