About the Role
FOX 29 Philadelphia is seeking a passionate, versatile, and high-energy News Reporter who brings hustle, originality, and innovation to our newsroom every day. If you are ready to "GO THERE" in Philadelphia, we want to see your reel! We are looking for someone with a passion for creating content across livestreaming news programs, digital news sites, social media, and linear TV, someone with a streaming and digital-first mindset that has evolved beyond traditional TV news constructs. We are looking for someone who can execute non-traditional storytelling, creating content for live streaming, website, and social platforms in a way that can also be repurposed for linear. This is a full-time staff position focused primarily on General Assignment Reporting, backed by a dominant live presence and strong field reporting capabilities, with the flexibility to serve as a fill-in host of our streaming hours. The ideal candidate excels in fast-paced breaking news situations, possesses a deep commitment to fair and clear storytelling, and knows how to engage audiences across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms, with a significant social footprint across Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
Key Responsibilities
- Reporting & Storytelling: Pitch and develop original story ideas, cultivate local contacts, and deliver clear, fair, and impactful reports covering a wide spectrum of topics—from hard news to popular culture.
- Breaking News & Live Coverage: Maintain composure and authority during breaking news events with a strong, dynamic live presence in the field.
- Fill-In Anchoring: Serve as a fill-in anchor on various newscasts when requested, delivering polished, authoritative coverage from the studio desk.
- Multi-Platform & Social Media: Tailor content for linear broadcast, streaming, and digital channels. Utilize social media trends and best practices to interact with viewers and expand the station's reach.
- Continuing Coverage: Track ongoing local issues, identify new developments, and provide meaningful context to complex stories.
- Community Engagement: Represent FOX 29 professionally to foster trust and build strong, lasting relationships across the Philadelphia community.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 4+ years of professional writing, researching, and on-air news reporting experience, preferably covering major news events in a Top 50 or medium-to-large market.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, or a related field preferred.
- Live & On-Air Excellence: Exceptional live field-reporting skills, polished on-air and anchoring presence, and outstanding written and verbal communication.
- Editorial Judgment: Strong knowledge of current events, local issues, and a passion for owning your stories from concept to broadcast.
- Flexibility: A collaborative team player willing to work non-traditional hours, including early mornings, weekends, holidays, fill-in anchor shifts, and dynamic field schedules as breaking news demands.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $130,000.00-145,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
