Role Overview

The NPI Manager is responsible for driving manufacturing readiness of new and significantly changed products across GEC globally, ensuring an effective and controlled transition from product development into repeatable series production.

Acting as the key integration point between R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality and other relevant functions, the NPI Manager leads the Manufacturing Readiness Review (MRR) process across product-development projects, ensuring manufacturing requirements, risks and readiness gaps are identified early, assigned to accountable owners and resolved before production launch.

The role strengthens the R&D-to-Manufacturing transition by embedding DFM/DFA, manufacturing readiness and launch preparation throughout product development, while technical and functional deliverables remain owned by the respective teams.

Requirements

  • Lead and drive the Manufacturing Readiness Review (MRR) process across GEC product-development projects globally, ensuring consistent application and timely closure of readiness requirements.
  • Establish the NPI and manufacturing-readiness plan for new products, platforms and significant product changes from development through production launch.
  • Coordinate R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality and other relevant stakeholders to ensure manufacturing-readiness deliverables are completed at the required project maturity.
  • Drive DFM/DFA and manufacturing involvement early in product development, identifying manufacturability, assembly, process and manufacturing-cost risks before design maturity.
  • Ensure product information required for manufacturing readiness is complete and appropriately released, including drawings, BOMs, software/firmware, spare parts, test instructions, packaging and relevant product documentation.
  • Drive readiness of the production system, including ERP BOMs, production-line setup, assembly instructions, tooling and equipment, test equipment, pre-production builds and operator training.
  • Coordinate supply-chain readiness covering new suppliers, supplier tooling, production-volume component costs, inventory planning and critical/long-lead components.
  • Ensure manufacturing quality readiness through appropriate sample approval, critical-feature identification and closure of manufacturing non-conformances before production launch.
  • Drive prototype, pilot and pre-production builds to validate manufacturing processes, assembly methods, tooling, test methods and production documentation prior to series production.
  • Monitor manufacturing-readiness status and key production-readiness indicators, ensuring gaps have clear owners, actions and completion dates, and escalate unresolved risks that could affect production launch.
  • Ensure product-cost and manufacturing assumptions are validated as the product approaches production, working with relevant functions where gaps against agreed targets are identified.
  • Capture industrialisation and first-build lessons learned and apply them across future product introductions to strengthen consistent and repeatable NPI practices across GEC.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechatronics.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, with significant experience in New Product Introduction, industrialisation, manufacturing engineering or product development.
  • Proven experience transitioning engineered products from development through manufacturing readiness into series-production launch.
  • Strong practical knowledge of DFM/DFA, manufacturing processes, assembly methods, tooling, fixtures and production-line readiness.
  • Strong understanding of the complete NPD/NPI lifecycle, including design development, prototype builds, validation, industrialisation and production ramp-up.
  • Experience leading structured Manufacturing Readiness Reviews or equivalent production-readiness processes within cross-functional product-development environments.
  • Strong experience working across R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain and Procurement.
  • Practical understanding of BOM/PDM/ERP maturity, engineering change control, manufacturing documentation and production release.
  • Good understanding of product costing, manufacturing cost drivers, supplier readiness, inventory management and long-lead components.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with a practical, hands-on approach to resolving design-to-manufacturing issues.
  • Ability to influence, challenge and drive actions across global functions and manufacturing locations without relying on direct functional authority.
  • Experience with electromechanical products, industrial equipment, automation, entrance control/security products or similar engineered products would be advantageous.
