The Network Automation Engineer serves as the technical owner of enterprise network automation and configuration compliance platform, with primary responsibility for OpenText Network Automation (aka HPNA, CiscoWorks). The role uses Network Automation to perform configuration management and software upgrades for enterprise routers and switches. It also provides administration of the supporting server infrastructure, application upgrades, operating system patching, lifecycle management, troubleshooting, and recovery activities. This role combines network automation engineering, compliance governance, and operational support in a large, regulated enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary administrator, technical owner, and subject matter expert for OpenText Network Automation, its supporting server infrastructure, and related enterprise network management platforms.
  • Use Network Automation to plan, test, coordinate, and execute configuration changes and software upgrades for enterprise routers and switches. Separately plan and perform supporting server and application upgrades, operating system patching, migrations, recovery validation, quarterly business continuity planning exercises, and lifecycle activities while maintaining platform performance and availability.
  • Develop and execute platform and server lifecycle roadmaps aligned with enterprise technology, automation, security, and support strategies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex application, Linux or Windows server, database connectivity, infrastructure, integration, and automation platform issues, including problems encountered during upgrades and maintenance windows.
  • Create and maintain separate implementation procedures, rollback plans, change records, test evidence, and post-change validation documentation for automated router and switch upgrades and for server and application upgrades.
  • Administer enterprise network configuration compliance programs and governance processes.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce network operating standards and configuration baselines.
  • Monitor and remediate configuration drift, ensuring adherence to service level agreements (SLAs) and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of ServiceNow’s Configuration Compliance Module for baseline compliance.
  • Develop and maintain network automation scripts, workflows, and REST API integrations using Python, PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or equivalent tools. Use GitLab or a similar platform for source control, code review, testing, and CI/CD to reduce manual effort, and improve reliability.
  • Maintain technical documentation, audit evidence, recovery procedures, Business Continuity Planning documentation, and operational standards; coordinate and participate in quarterly Business Continuity Planning exercises; document outcomes and remediation actions; and partner with engineering teams on policy exceptions and risk mitigation strategies.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Six or more years of experience in network engineering, systems administration, infrastructure automation, application support, or a related technology discipline.
