JOB SUMMARY: Stevens Transport TL, the brokerage division of Stevens Transport, is seeking a highly motivated National Freight Broker to secure carrier capacity and successfully execute customer freight across North America. The National Freight Broker is responsible for developing carrier relationships, negotiating transportation rates, managing shipment execution, and maximizing gross profit while delivering exceptional service. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, competitive drive, problem-solving ability, and the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Please note this position is on-site at Stevens Transport HQ in Dallas, TX.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Key Responsibilities

  • Source and secure carrier capacity to support customer freight requirements.
  • Consistently maintain high-volume carrier outreach activities sufficient to meet operational objectives.
  • Build and maintain a network of carrier partners to improve capacity and service performance.
  • Manage assigned freight volume and service expectations while meeting departmental performance goals.
  • Negotiate transportation rates that maximize gross profit while supporting service commitments.
  • Generate carrier sales leads and develop new carrier relationships.
  • Monitor shipment status and proactively communicate updates, delays, and exceptions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate shipment and activity documentation within company systems, including AS/400.
  • Resolve transportation service issues through effective communication and problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with brokerage operations, customer sales, and leadership teams to meet company goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume sales and operations environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Solid computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and follow-through.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of brokerage, carrier sales, logistics, transportation, or supply chain experience.
  • Experience negotiating transportation rates and carrier agreements.
  • Experience utilizing load boards, transportation management systems (TMS), CRM systems, or AS/400 environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Transportation, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a commission or performance-based sales environment.

Work Experience:

  • 1+ years of logistics, transportation, freight brokerage, carrier sales, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments preferred.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation, or Business disciplines preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Frequent telephone communication throughout the workday.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry office materials up to 15 pounds.
