What you will do 

Johnson Controls delivers security and building technology solutions that help customers protect people, property, and operations. In this role, you will serve as the on-site representative for assigned Security projects, helping ensure safe, high-quality execution and dependable project delivery in the Columbus, Ohio market.

Under general supervision of the Project Owner, the Site Project Manager is responsible for the on-site execution of assigned Security projects of medium complexity. You will oversee field activities from mobilization through closeout, coordinating with the Major Projects team, customers, subcontractors, and site stakeholders to deliver the work on time, within scope and budget, and in line with contract requirements.

This position requires extended deployment, typically for 6 to 18 months, with the ability to remain on site for the duration of the assignment.

How you will do it

• Serve as the on-site project manager for assigned Security projects and support execution from planning through closeout.
• Coordinate daily with the Project Manager, customer, subcontractors, and other site contractors to keep work aligned and moving forward.
• Perform daily site inspections to verify quality, safety compliance, project integrity, and customer satisfaction.
• Oversee on-site work to ensure compliance with Johnson Controls standards, policies, and contractual obligations.
• Prepare and submit progress updates and field reports for inclusion in the master project schedule, including variance analysis when needed.
• Resolve site conflicts related to work sequencing, labor coordination, access, and unforeseen field conditions.
• Support risk management activities and assist with recovery plans when schedule or scope challenges arise.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and controls in accordance with contract requirements and Johnson Controls processes.
• Communicate expectations clearly to subcontractors and help maintain adequate staffing levels to support the schedule.
• May serve as the on-site safety program coordinator and/or QA/QC lead.
• Participate in scheduling, coordination, commissioning, and closeout meetings.
• Coordinate with Regional and Branch Leadership through the assigned Major Projects Project Manager to secure resources and support.
• Take ownership of the site scope with accountability, safety, and integrity, keeping execution aligned to contract commitments and customer expectations.
• Stay close to the work in the field so you can identify issues early, remove obstacles quickly, and keep the project focused on the priorities that matter most.
• Use clear, timely communication and candid reporting to support daily decision-making, schedule recovery, and continuous improvement.
• Work as one team with the Project Manager, customer, subcontractors, and site partners to build trust and coordinate resources effectively.
• Drive disciplined follow-through on quality, safety, and documentation so the project can progress smoothly through commissioning and closeout.

What we look for

Required

• University degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 6 years of related project management, construction supervision, or field leadership experience.
• Prior experience managing medium‑complexity projects within the Security, low‑voltage, life safety, or related construction environment.
• Strong coordination skills with the ability to supervise multiple on‑site activities simultaneously.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness and ability to deploy for extended periods (typically 6 to 18 months) and travel up to 100% based on project assignment.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe Writer, Visio, and Windows‑based applications.
• Experience supporting or leading project scopes of $1M or greater.
• Must hold or be able to obtain required State Certifications for Security Alarm Systems.

Preferred

• Associate Degree with 5–7 years of direct project coordination and supervisory experience in Commercial and/or Industrial Building Construction
  or
  8 years of direct field experience in the Security or fire alarm life safety industry.
• Prior experience working on Major Projects or long‑term site deployments.
• Familiarity with Johnson Controls project controls, safety standards, and QA/QC processes.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $85,000- 117,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
