Modeling and Simulation Engineer
Summary
The Entry-Level Modeling & Simulation (ModSim) Engineer will support the development, integration, execution, and analysis of modeling and simulation capabilities used to evaluate system performance and support engineering activities. The position will contribute to the implementation of simulation models, scenario development, data analysis, verification and validation activities, and integration of models with software and hardware environments.
The engineer will work under the technical direction of senior ModSim and systems engineering personnel and assist with simulation execution, troubleshooting, documentation, and analysis of results. The role will support continued development of reusable modeling capabilities and integration of ModSim products within established software development, test, and engineering workflows.
Position Responsibilities
- Support the development, integration, execution, and analysis of modeling and simulation capabilities used to evaluate system performance.
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of simulation models and supporting tools.
- Develop and modify simulation scenarios to support engineering analyses and test objectives.
- Perform data processing, analysis, and interpretation of simulation results.
- Support model verification, validation, and performance assessment activities.
- Assist with integration of models and simulations with software, hardware, and test environments.
- Execute simulations, troubleshoot technical issues, and document configurations, procedures, and results.
- Work under the technical direction of senior ModSim and systems engineering personnel.
- Support development of reusable modeling and simulation capabilities.
- Integrate ModSim products into established software development, test, and engineering workflows.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related technical discipline.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a TS/SCI DOD Security Clearance.
- 0-2 years of modeling, simulation, software, or engineering experience; internships, academic projects, or research experience may qualify.
- Working knowledge of at least one technical programming or scripting language such as C++, Python, MATLAB, or similar.
- Basic understanding of modeling and simulation principles, including development and execution of mathematical, physics-based, or system-level models.
- Ability to analyze simulation outputs, identify trends or anomalies, and communicate technical results.
- Familiarity with software development practices, including Git-based version control, configuration management, and documentation.
- Ability to support model integration, troubleshooting, verification, and validation activities within an established technical framework.
- Ability to collaborate with modeling and simulation, software, systems, hardware, and test engineering personnel.
- Occasionally may be required to travel within the Continental U.S.
- Travel required to domestic US sites – up to 10%.

Preferred Qualifications & Desired Competencies
- Experience with Python, MATLAB/Simulink, C++, or similar modeling and simulation tools.
- Experience with Directed Energy (High Energy Lasers, High Power Microwaves, Pulsed Lasers, etc.)
- Exposure to discrete-event, Monte Carlo, physics-based, mission-level, or system-level simulation.
- Familiarity with verification, validation, and accreditation (VV&A) concepts and model performance assessment.
- Experience processing, analyzing, and visualizing simulation or test data.
- Familiarity with Linux-based development or simulation environments.
- Exposure to integrating simulation models with software, hardware, or hardware-in-the-loop environments.
- Familiarity with GitLab, automated workflows, CI/CD, or containerized simulation environments.
- Exposure to DoD, aerospace, defense systems, digital engineering, or mission-level modeling and simulation environments.
Physical Demands
- Travel required to domestic US sites – up to 10%.
- Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment.
- Required to sit and stand for long periods (Frequent).
- Required to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent).
Clearance Level
The salary range for this role is:
$60,500 - $92,500AeroVironment considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the location, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
ITAR Requirement:
This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). In order to comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under the ITAR and the EAR, or a person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction. Some positions will require current U.S. Citizenship due to contract requirements.
