Mobile Technical Lead

Locations: Bucharest, Romania | Hybrid

Role Overview

SS&C Digital is seeking an experienced Mobile Technical Lead to provide technical leadership for the design, development and operation of secure, high-quality mobile applications built primarily with React Native.

You will lead the technical direction of cross-platform iOS and Android solutions used by customers, advisers and employers across SS&C’s financial-services businesses, combining hands-on development with architecture, engineering governance, mentoring and delivery leadership.

What You Will Get To Do

Technical leadership

• Define and maintain the technical architecture for React Native applications across iOS and Android.
• Establish mobile engineering standards, reusable patterns and development guardrails.
• Provide technical direction to mobile developers and support teams in resolving complex engineering challenges.
• Lead technical design discussions, document key decisions and communicate trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ensure effective integration with APIs, identity platforms and backend systems.
• Balance feature delivery with security, quality, performance and maintainability, addressing technical debt and platform risks.
• Maintain alignment between mobile engineering, enterprise architecture and product strategy.

Engineering and delivery

• Contribute directly to React Native and TypeScript development, particularly for complex or strategically important changes.
• Review pull requests and provide constructive technical guidance.
• Guide component design, state management, navigation, error handling and offline behaviour.
• Oversee native-platform integrations and releases to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
• Support backlog refinement, technical estimation and delivery planning.
• Lead the resolution of complex production incidents and ensure corrective actions inform engineering priorities.

Security and compliance

• Embed secure development practices appropriate to regulated financial services.
• Oversee authentication, authorisation, biometrics, token management and secure storage to protect personal and financial data.
• Apply relevant mobile security standards, including OWASP MASVS, and work with security teams to resolve vulnerabilities and penetration-test findings.

• Govern third-party dependencies and support audit, risk and client-assurance activities with clear technical evidence.

Quality and operational excellence

• Define an effective mobile-testing strategy covering unit, component, integration, accessibility and end-to-end testing.

• Promote test automation using tools such as Jest, React Native Testing Library, Detox or Appium, and establish appropriate quality gates within CI/CD pipelines.
• Ensure effective monitoring, analytics and crash reporting to improve application stability and performance.
• Establish reliable release practices, including feature flags, phased rollouts and recovery arrangements.
• Ensure applications meet WCAG 2.2 AA and relevant native-platform accessibility expectations.

Leadership and collaboration

• Mentor mobile engineers, set clear technical expectations and provide constructive feedback.
• Build shared understanding across engineering, product, design and delivery teams.
• Encourage team ownership, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Support technical recruitment and contribute reusable approaches to the wider engineering community.

What You Will Bring

• Strong commercial experience developing and supporting production React Native applications for iOS and Android.
• Previous experience as a Technical Lead, Lead Developer or Senior Mobile Engineer with technical-leadership responsibilities.
• Advanced JavaScript, TypeScript and React skills, including hooks, navigation and state management.
• Experience making architectural decisions and integrating REST or GraphQL APIs.
• Ability to diagnose complex mobile performance, memory, rendering and platform-specific issues.
• Strong understanding of mobile authentication, secure storage, encryption and session management.

• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, Git workflows and app-store releases.
• Working knowledge of Xcode, Android Studio, CocoaPods and Gradle.
• Understanding of accessible mobile design.
• Clear communication skills and experience mentoring engineers within distributed Agile teams.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Native iOS or Android development using Swift, Kotlin or Java.
• Experience with Expo, Fastlane or equivalent mobile delivery tools.
• Familiarity with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, MFA and identity platforms such as Keycloak.
• Knowledge of advanced mobile security controls and software supply-chain practices.
• Experience with mobile observability, remote configuration or shared design systems.
• Experience in financial services or another regulated industry.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools within enterprise security and code-review standards.
