What You'll Do
 
YWCA Seattle King Snohomish, one of the largest nonprofits in the region, focuses on the needs of women, girls, and families in the community, is searching for a Mobile Flexible Advocate, Gender Based Violence to join their team in the Renton King County, WA area.
 
The Mobile Flexible Advocate provides services within the NEXT STEP HOTEL Program, providing supportive services to survivors of domestic violence fleeing intimate danger. Services including housing, food, intake, and other essential supports.
 
In your role, you will provide support to adult survivors in gaining stability around housing, employment, food, and similar core needs.  You will use a model of best practice trauma-informed advocacy with a strength-based approach with legal and advocacy-based counseling, safety planning and flexible client assistance including hotel/motel vouchers.
 
Note: This position is fully onsite at YWCA Offices.

Expectations of your role:

  • Process hotel invoices and build relationship with community hotels.
  • Advocates for victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or commercial sexual exploitation and their children, providing crisis intervention, assessment, and ongoing case management.
  • Responds to referrals and calls within required time frame
  • Conducts intakes with new client, including screening for eligibility and to determine support needs
  • Collects and completes reporting and quarterly narratives using data and statistical information
  • Develops and maintains relations with community partners and attends community meetings.
  • Facilitate and create presentations that are relevant to associated partners and offered services
  • Engage in community networking activities to both increase access to services for survivors furthest away from opportunity specifically Black and African American survivors
  • Maintain 20 hours of continued education hours about advocacy-based Domestic Violence
  • Must have's to be successful:

  • Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of racism and poverty and foster diversity, and social justice advocacy that are furthest from opportunities. (Specifically African American and other women of color).
  • (1) year of experience with housing/shelter working with survivors that have experienced Gender Base Violence, Sexual Assault, Domestic, Intimate Partner, and Commercial Sexual Exploitation
  • Vehicle with valid WA Driver's License; candidate must be able to travel independently between multiple work sites within a day.
  • Skilled at using Microsoft office suite including Outlook, Calendar, Teams, excel and virtual meeting technology such as ZOOM
  • Strong orientation toward advocacy, with ability to navigate multiple systems (i.e., human services, health, law enforcement etc.)
  • Core competencies expected: discernment/judgment, professional boundaries, organizational understanding, strong communication both oral and written.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and outlook, and cellphone text.
  • Knowledge of community resources, confidence to handle complicated situations.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must maintain 20 hours of continued education hours on advocacy based DV.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THIS POSITION

  • Continuously exchanges information through listening and talking with clients, agency staff, employers, representatives of community organizations and other individuals in the community
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits and climbs in performing duties in the workspace and in the community
  • Continuous use telephones, computers, fax machines and other office equipment and supplies
  • Occasionally must access personal living spaces within multi-level apartment complexes
  • Frequent travel up to 50% of the time by personal vehicle
  •  
    *Continuously = Over 80% of the time * Frequently = 20-80% * Occasionally = Under 20%

    HOURS, RATE, & BENEFITS

  • Hourly Rate: $28.00 per hour
  • Excellent benefits package including medical insurance, retirement plan, plus generous vacation, holiday, and sick leave plans
  • At the time of hire, employees may enroll voluntarily in the Fidelity 403b Plan. After two years of employment, employees are eligible to participate in the YWCA Retirement Fund
