About this Finance Systems, Chart of Accounts & Accounting Integration (VP) role at HugoBank
Role Purpose
We are building a digital bank on a modern technology stack, and Finance needs an owner for the accounting layer between the business and the books. This role owns the Chart of Accounts across the Core Banking System and Oracle ERP, designs the accounting rules that translate transaction events into general ledger entries, and ensures every event in the core banking platform is completely and accurately reflected in Oracle ERP — from which statutory, management and regulatory reporting is produced. The role covers both the initial deployment of the finance stack and its ongoing life as new products, channels and payment rails are launched. This is a hands-on functional expert role, not a supervisory one.
Key Responsibilities
Chart of Accounts design and control
● Design the COA to core banking platform standards; assign category codes, asset types and internal accounts to products in coordination with stream owners, and internal accounts for all Finance areas.
● Establish control over category codes and internal accounts; prepare the COA for upload and maintain it continuously through build, testing, migration and go-live.
● Own and govern the mapping from core banking accounts to Oracle ERP natural accounts, cost centres, lines of business and product dimensions, ensuring it supports IFRS, SBP returns and management reporting without manual re-mapping.
Functional design, documentation and training
● Finalise the company/entity structure from business requirements; run business process reviews and gap analysis.
● Author the Business Requirement Document and Functional Specification Document with business and technology partners; drive accounting-impact decisions for all interfaces and modules.
● Deliver induction and functional training to Finance and business users on finance-related modules.
Configuration, environments and testing
● Configure GL-level and report-level parameters and validate all core Finance GL reports across environments.
● Own and execute the Finance run-book across Development, Master, Testing, Migration and Production; perform sanity testing after each refresh or release and sign off Finance UAT.
Core banking to Oracle ERP accounting flow
● Lead development, configuration and testing of the GL interface between the core banking system and Oracle Financials.
● Define and document the accounting entries — triggers, timing, contra, suspense and clearing accounts — for every transaction event; own posting integrity, cut-off, control totals and rejected-entry handling.
● Operate daily controls proving agreement between the core banking GL and the ERP GL, and drive resolution of variances.
Migration and product launches
● Represent Finance in balance migration, opening balance loads, parallel runs and post-migration reconciliations; sign off before cut-over.
● Define, configure and test the accounting treatment for every new product, fee, channel or partner arrangement before launch — deposits, lending, cards, wallets, payments, accruals, provisions and write-offs.
Settlement and reconciliation accounting (with Operations)
● Define the accounting treatment of settlement flows across payment rails, switches, schemes and partner banks (Raast, 1LINK/IBFT, NIFT, card schemes, agents and aggregators).
● Ensure settlement, in-transit and pass-through accounts are correctly modelled, reconciled daily and reflected in the ERP; define treatment of unmatched items, chargebacks, reversals, disputes, write-offs and recoveries with clear ageing and escalation.
Reporting enablement, controls and governance
● Ensure the ERP GL is a complete and reconciled single source of truth for statutory, regulatory and management reporting; support month-end and year-end close.
● Maintain the accounting rulebook, COA repository, run-book and data lineage as version-controlled artefacts, with segregation of duties and maker-checker over configuration changes.
● Act as Finance's point of contact for internal audit, external audit, SBP inspections and third-party assessments on accounting flows and GL integrity.
Requirements
Essential
● Bachelor degree in Accounting & Finance, CA. ACCA, MBA or MSc preferred
● 6–10 years in banking or financial services finance, with exposure to Financial Control, Product Control or Finance Systems.
● Hands-on ownership of a Chart of Accounts in a core banking system — category codes, asset types and internal accounts — through design, configuration, upload and go-live.
● Working knowledge of a modern core banking platform (Temenos Transact / T24 or equivalent) and Oracle ERP / Oracle Fusion Financials (GL, Subledger Accounting).
● Experience building or testing a GL interface between a core banking system and an enterprise GL (Oracle Financials, SAP or MS Dynamics).
● Proven authorship of BRDs, FSDs, gap analyses, run-books and accounting entry matrices.
● Strong banking product accounting knowledge, including accruals, provisioning and IFRS 9; working knowledge of SBP regulatory reporting and prudential regulations.
Desirable
● End-to-end participation in a core banking or ERP implementation, from requirements through migration, go-live and stabilisation.
● Greenfield bank, digital bank or fintech experience; familiarity with Pakistan's Digital Banks Licensing and Regulatory Framework.
● Oracle Fusion Accounting Hub or equivalent accounting rules engine; reconciliation platforms and exception management tooling.
● SQL or comparable data query ability to independently investigate GL and transaction data.
Skills and Attributes
Systems-minded accountant who moves comfortably between accounting standards, product design and system configuration. Precise and control-oriented, with a low tolerance for undocumented mappings and ageing suspense balances. Strong specification-writing skills — able to write a document a vendor can build from and an auditor can follow. Confident communicator, able to challenge Technology, vendors, Operations and Product teams and hold a design position under build-phase pressure.
