JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant is a field-based member of the operations team who supports the
facilitation of in-person and remote evaluations throughout California. The Medical
Assistant helps ensure the day of evaluation is organized, professional, efficient, and
ready for the evaluating physician and examinee.
This position is primarily focused on examination-day and physician support, including
preparing for the evaluation, assisting with the flow of the workday, obtaining routine
measurements and vital signs as directed by the physician and within applicable scope,
managing examination documents, materials, equipment, and communicating
operational needs. The Medical Assistant does not independently diagnose, treat,
determine causation, make impairment or disability determinations, or provide opinions
regarding the outcome of an evaluation.
**This is a part-time role.

What You’ll Do
Field Operations & Exam Logistics
- Travel to assigned examination locations, arriving with sufficient lead time to prepare rooms, equipment, forms, records, and required materials.
- Maintain, transport, inventory, and appropriately store examination equipment and operational supplies.
- Complete required travel, mileage, expense, examination, and operational documentation accurately and within established timelines.
- Identify and promptly communicate operational, scheduling, equipment, safety, location, or examinee concerns to relevant stakeholders.
Clinical Support & Patient Care
- Support evaluating physicians during scheduled evaluations to maintain an efficient examination-day workflow.
- Greet examinees professionally, verify identity and required information, and provide general logistical instructions regarding the process.
- Obtain and document routine measurements (height, weight, vital signs) and assist physicians with range-of-motion measurements and positioning as requested.
- Serve as a professional chaperone when requested or required.
Medical-Legal Compliance & Neutrality
- Maintain strict neutrality and professional boundaries throughout the medical-legal evaluation process; do not advocate for the examinee, employer, carrier, or any other party.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and organized documentation of information obtained during the evaluation as directed by the physician and company procedures.
- Protect confidential and protected health information (PHI) in full compliance with applicable privacy, security, and company requirements.
Adaptability & Relationship Management
- Maintain a professional relationship with evaluating physicians, examinees, examination-site personnel, attorneys, claims professionals, and internal team members.
- Adapt seamlessly to different physicians, medical specialties, examination locations, schedules, and patient needs while maintaining consistent service standards.
- Perform other duties related to examination support and field operations as assigned.

What Your First 90 Days May Look Like:
- Days 1–30: Focus on mastering core medical-legal compliance standards, learning equipment/supplies protocols, and shadowing experienced chaperones to establish reliable travel, intake, and basic clinical support routines.
- Days 31–60: Independently manage full examination days across varied locations and specialties, ensuring precise measurement gathering, pristine documentation, and smooth physician workflow support.
- Days 61–90: Operate with complete autonomy in the field, proactively troubleshooting venue and scheduling logistics while consistently upholding strict neutrality and seamless stakeholder communication.
Requirements
EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred but not required.
• Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
credential preferred but not required.
• Current CPR/BLS certification preferred and may be required based on assignment
and company policy.
Must Haves:
• Minimum one (1) year of Medical Assistant or comparable healthcare support
experience preferred; relevant experience may be considered.
• Ability to work independently in a field-based environment with limited direct
supervision.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Professional communication skills and the ability to interact respectfully with
individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling
sensitive medical-legal information.
• Ability to remain neutral and professional in potentially stressful or contentious
workers’ compensation environments.
• Valid California driver’s license, clean driving record and reliable transportation.
• Ability to use a smartphone, computer, email, electronic forms, and other technology
required for field operations.
• Ability to safely transport and manage examination supplies and equipment.
• Ability to meet the physical and travel requirements of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience supporting physicians in a medical-legal, occupational medicine, workers’
compensation, independent medical examination (IME), QME, or AME environment.
• Experience working with orthopedic, neurology, pain management, physical medicine
and rehabilitation, occupational medicine, or other physician specialties commonly
involved in workers’ compensation evaluations.
• Experience obtaining accurate range-of-motion or other standardized measurements.
• Experience working independently across multiple clinical or examination locations.
• Familiarity with California workers’ compensation processes or the California Division
of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) environment.
• Strong customer-service skills and demonstrated ability to represent a healthcare
organization professionally in the field.
• Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Travel Expectations
• This is a field-based position requiring regular travel throughout an assigned California
territory.
• Travel may include multiple cities and examination locations within a single geographic
region and may occasionally require travel outside the employee’s primary territory
based on business needs.
• Medical Assistants should expect to drive to offices, examination centers, medical
facilities, and other approved evaluation locations.
• Reliable transportation, good driving record and a valid California driver’s license are
required.
• Mileage and approved business travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with
company policy.
• Schedules may vary based on physician availability and examination demand. Some
early morning starts, extended days, or occasional schedule changes may be required.
• The Medical Assistant is expected to arrive at each assignment with sufficient time to
prepare the examination environment before the scheduled appointment and stay at the
location until the last applicant and physician have left.
