South Bow is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Specialist to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of pipeline and terminal assets across the region. This role serves as a subject matter expert for mechanical systems, rotating equipment, fixed equipment, and reliability improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will partner with Operations, Asset Integrity, Engineering teams to identify reliability risks, develop mitigation strategies, and execute solutions that improve equipment performance and reduce operational risk.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with practical field experience and a collaborative approach to problem solving. This position requires an individual who can balance strategic asset management with hands-on support of day-to-day operations.
What You Will Do
- Provide technical expertise for mechanical equipment including pumps, motors, valves, pressure vessels, piping systems, tanks, and associated infrastructure.
- Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of equipment failures and recurring operational issues.
- Develop and deliver technical training programs to support our field technicians
- Develop maintenance and troubleshooting procedures, standards, and best practices associated with mechanical systems.
- Lead or participate in equipment reliability assessments, failure investigations, and corrective action development.
- Partner with Operations and Maintenance personnel to identify opportunities to improve asset availability and reduce lifecycle costs.
- Support Management of Change (MOC), capital projects, and facility modifications by providing mechanical expertise and technical review.
- Evaluate equipment performance data and develop recommendations to improve safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Support emergency response efforts and provide technical guidance during abnormal operating conditions.
- Foster a strong safety culture by ensuring work is completed in compliance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and safe work practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Technical degree or diploma or equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in pipeline, terminal, midstream, energy, industrial, or related operations.
- Demonstrated experience with rotating equipment, fixed equipment, piping systems, and mechanical reliability programs.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Knowledge of maintenance and reliability principles, including condition monitoring and preventative maintenance strategies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field locations as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting crude oil, refined products, natural gas, or liquids pipeline facilities.
- Experience developing and implementing procedures and technical training programs
- Experience with risk-based inspection, asset integrity programs, or reliability-centered maintenance methodologies.
- Familiarity with API, ASME, OSHA, PHMSA, and applicable industry standards.
- Experience leading and influencing technical decisions.
- Knowledge of Microsoft D365, SAP, Maximo, or similar maintenance management systems.
This position requires candidates to:
- Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including Canada)
- Successfully complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing
- Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
- Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training (estimated at 40% of work schedule)
- Be part of an on-call rotation and provide emergency support as required
