Job Summary: This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing all heavy-duty trucks, equipment, and trailers.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
•    Conduct inspections and diagnostic tests to determine equipment or vehicle conditions; identify worn and damaged parts
•    Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, and disassembling
•    Replace major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems (i.e. power and drive trains, electrical air condition, fuel, emission, brakes, steering, and hydraulics)
•    Assess and execute vehicle adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems control linkages, clutches, and traction units
•    Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems
•    Ensure available equipment is ready for use through preventative maintenance schedules, installation of components and parts, controlling corrosion, and completing winterization procedures
•    Contain cost by using warranty and evaluating service and parts options
•    Maintain vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting
•    Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs
•    Maintain shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventative maintenance and calling for repairs
•    Inventory stock, place orders, and verify receipts
•    Comply with federal state vehicle requirements by testing engines, safety, and combustion control standards
•    Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

 

Education: High school diploma, general education degree (G.E.D.), or related trade school education

 

Experience: 
•    One year experience working with diesel engines
•    One to three years of strong automotive mechanical diagnosis, problem-solving and repair experience
•    ASE certifications preferredTechnical Skills:
•    Ability to operate shop machinery and equipment
•    Ability to repair and maintain vehicle/construction equipment•    Extensive knowledge of DOT and FMCSA guidelines

 

Soft Skills:
•    Highly organized and detail oriented 
•    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills 
•    Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines 
•    Ability to think analytically, apply sound judgment, and solve problems 

 

Physical Requirements: 
•    Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
•    Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets Company requirements
•    Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and frequently lift up to 50 lbs.; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
•    Ability to work in various settings with moderate to loud noise levels  
•    Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
•    May be required to work long and unpredictable hours, including weekends
