About this Manufacturing Engineer, Structures and Mechanical Integration, Space role at Anduril Industries

Anduril Industries · Onsite · Costa Mesa, California, United States

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Anduril’s Space Manufacturing team is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for Structures and Mechanical Integration to join our team. Your expertise will help ensure that our products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability at Anduril.

As the Manufacturing Engineer for Structures and Mechanical Integration, you will bring deep mechanical and structural engineering experience to the design of the tooling and mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE) our structures and vehicle lines depend on — lifting and handling fixtures, rotation and integration stands, and transport fixtures — while developing and executing the mechanical integration processes that build our spacecraft. You will work hands-on with technicians on the floor.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanical/structural manufacturing engineer who has designed MGSE and tooling for flight or comparably high-consequence hardware, and who has taken vehicle-level or major-assembly integration from development into production in a fast-paced environment.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Design and develop mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE) and tooling — lifting and handling fixtures, rotation and integration stands, transport and shipping fixtures — that the structures and vehicle integration lines depend on.
  • Perform load-path and structural-margin checks on MGSE and tooling, defining factors of safety and coordinating proof-load and qualification testing before equipment is released for use on flight hardware.
  • Develop and qualify mechanical/structural integration processes — precision fastening and torque control, bonded and shimmed joints, mechanism and module installation, and alignment to metrology-defined datums.
  • Author and maintain work instructions, travelers, and as-built records for the structural and mechanical build.
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability and Assembly into structural and vehicle-level designs before CDR — access, fastener reach, tool clearance, and integration order.
  • Own cleanroom manufacturing practice on your line — contamination control, FOD prevention, gowning and material flow across ISO 7 and ISO 5 environments.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for nonconformances; support PFMEA, process validation, and first article inspection.
  • Act as an owner and evangelist for Anduril's Manufacturing Development Process (MDP), and use Foundry and Teamcenter as the system of record for build definition, work instructions, and as-built records.
  • Support design reviews (PDR, CDR) and manufacturing readiness reviews, and provide hands-on technical support to integration technicians on the floor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing or mechanical engineering experience in aerospace, space, defense, or another high-reliability industry, including hands-on work on structural and mechanical assemblies.
  • 3+ years designing tooling, fixtures, or mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE) — such as lifting and handling fixtures, rotation and integration stands, and transport fixtures — with attention to load paths, structural margins, and factors of safety, including proof-load or qualification testing of lifting and handling equipment.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD (e.g., Siemens NX) for mechanical/structural design of tooling and MGSE, including GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Hands-on depth in mechanical integration: precision fastening and torque control, bonded or shimmed joints, mechanism installation, and alignment to metrology-defined datums (laser tracker, CMM, or photogrammetry).
  • Cleanroom manufacturing experience with contamination control and FOD prevention discipline (ISO 7 or cleaner).
  • Demonstrated expertise in root cause analysis (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone), PFMEA, and first article inspection.
  • Hands-on mindset with a demonstrated willingness to work on the floor alongside technicians.
  • Willing to work on-site, with travel up to 15% to development, test, and supplier sites.
  • Currently possesses and is able to maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Direct experience integrating satellites, spacecraft, or space-based instruments (flight hardware).
  • Structural analysis background — hand calculations or FEA for GSE and tooling load cases.
  • Weight and balance or mass-properties verification and final mechanical close-out operations.
  • Familiarity with space workmanship and process standards — NASA-STD-8739 series, IPC-620, ECSS, or equivalents.
  • A quantified cycle-time, yield, or throughput improvement on an assembly or integration line.
