By joining our rapidly growing Accounting Advisory practice, you will serve as a trusted partner to our clients across a broad range of industries, company stages, and sizes, including early-stage, emerging growth, middle-market, and large, complex organizations. Our work spans both public and private companies, with significant exposure to Private Equity-backed portfolio companies. You will bring your first-hand experience, unique perspectives, and functional knowledge to deliver tailored, integrated solutions that help our clients solve today's challenges and set the foundation for future success. As a Managing Director at CrossCountry Consulting, you will be responsible for a mix of client delivery, business development, leading teams, and developing junior team members, as well as serving as a member of CrossCountry's leadership team.
What You'll Do:
General Accounting Close Support:
Lead and oversee the development of streamlined monthly close processes for clients, including cash-to-accrual conversions and creation of supporting schedules
Validate the existence of assets and prepare associated roll forwards
Review and oversee balance sheet reconciliations (intercompany, inventory, cash, prepaids, etc.)
Support various aspects of accounting compliance, including tax forms, sales tax exemptions, 1099s, etc., while contributing to the preparation of financial statements and development of internal controls and policies
Oversee preparation of budgets or forecasts and develop reports for management or regulatory bodies
Guide the implementation of cloud-based finance and accounting systems
Manage and review journal entries, invoices, and reconciliation of accounts during monthly or annual closings
Guide companies through efficient external audit processes
Financial Reporting Support:
Support SEC filing, design of reporting processes, restatement assistance, and traditional 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K filings
Conduct IPO-readiness assessments and assist clients in preparation for a public offering (via Form S-1 or F-1)
Advise clients on complex accounting standards (US GAAP and/or IFRS), including revenue recognition, lease accounting, derivatives, business combinations, and consolidation
Oversee and improve financial planning and analysis (budgeting, forecasting, data analysis)
Review monthly internal financial reporting packs and monthly regulatory reporting
Operations Support:
Liaise with business units outside of accounting to integrate business operations
Advise clients on leveraging AI and automation tools to streamline close processes, improve forecasting, and enhance data-driven decision making
Partner with IT teams to integrate financial systems during acquisitions
Transform finance and/or accounting functions, including accounting and operational process improvements, integration support, target operating model decisions, and RBA/Data Analytics
Client Delivery:
Responsible for account leadership and financial management of multiple accounts and sustained relationships with senior client executives
Assist with complex transactions, technical accounting standard and policy implementations, and operational accounting engagements
Practice Leadership: Serve as a key leader in the Accounting Advisory practice by:
Oversee client accounts, projects, and engagements, including work plans, staffing, timelines, fee negotiations, and budgets throughout all lifecycle phases
Build and grow high-level relationships and networks with clients across the West Coast market
Generate sustainable, repeatable revenue through new clients and growth at existing clients
Develop timely resolutions to issues, risks, and project team conflicts
Manage the full life cycle of proposals from development to deal closure
Develop delivery methodologies and new service offerings
Contribute to developing and implementing firm-approved, AI-enabled solutions for clients, in accordance with company policies on data protection, intellectual property, and professional standards
Act as role model, supervisor, coach, and mentor to team members
Ensure staffing and recruiting needs are met across clients and the West Coast market
What You'll Bring:
15+ years of related experience spanning advisory and controllership roles for commercial or PE-backed portfolio companies, supported by a strong foundation in professional services (public accounting, advisory firm, or management consulting firm)
7+ years of hands-on Controllership experience in emerging growth, middle market, and/or PE-backed portfolio companies (Software/SaaS or Healthcare, or broad B2B industry exposure preferred)
Deep expertise in operational accounting, including month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls
In-depth knowledge of accounting standards (US GAAP and/or IFRS)
Hands-on experience - OR - significant exposure to ERP systems and tools such as: NetSuite, Sage, MS Dynamics, QuickBooks, Workiva, DFIN, Tableau, PowerBI, Alteryx, Snowflake, SQL, Python
Ability to leverage AI and automation to optimize accounting processes, enhance reporting accuracy, and drive operational efficiency
Consistent track record of building and developing strong client relationships in the West Coast market
Personal brand, executive presence, integrity, collaborative nature, poise and polish under pressure
Demonstrated ability to responsibly explore and adopt firm-approved AI tools to enhance productivity and innovation
Proven track record as an influential change agent, championing and successfully implementing new ideas and initiatives
Passion for mentoring and leading teams while efficiently implementing new ideas and initiatives
Identify new growth and shared revenue opportunities, collaborating with sales leadership to originate new business and grow existing relationships
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA or CA certification preferred
Based in or willing to relocate to California; ability to serve clients across the West Coast market
As one might expect, travel is innate in some of our projects. With that said, our approach to travel is a thoughtful, meaningful one and we do our best to avoid scheduling back-to-back extended travel projects. Even so, travel will vary project-to-project based on client preferences and may sometimes come in bursts.
For applicants located in California State, CrossCountry Consulting is required to include an estimate of the compensation range for this role. The following range takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to, skills, experience, education, licenses, certifications, business needs, and internal equity. An estimate of the current range is $281,750 - $402,500 + annual bonus + additional benefits.
