Site Reliability Engineering Manager
Job Description
As a Site Reliability Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of SREs responsible for the availability, reliability, and performance of our products. You will combine technical depth, hands-on use of AI, and people leadership. You will own the team's contribution to availability targets, lead incident and problem management, and build the telemetry and processes that keep our services measurably healthy. You will be the escalation point for our most urgent customer issues. You will also be the bridge between engineering, operations, and senior leadership. If you have experience in service management, cloud providers, software development, and technology infrastructure, join our team and develop your career.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive best practices for reliability, scalability, and performance across our systems and services. Make sure the team delivers sustainable improvements, not just reactive support.
- Identify risks to service reliability early and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring business continuity and resilience.
- Identify where AI and ML tools can improve reliability, reduce cost, and lower risk.
- Promote DevOps principles and integrate SRE practices into the software development lifecycle.
- Champion automation, AI, and tooling to streamline operational workflows, increase efficiency, and reduce manual toil.
- Drive the development of monitoring, alerting, and automation solutions that proactively identify and remediate issues.
- Lead the team through incident and problem management processes. Use AI-assisted tooling to speed up triage and root cause analysis.
- Communicate major incidents, root causes, and corrective actions to senior leadership.
- Turn incident learnings into durable improvement actions that prevent repeat events.
- Lead and mentor a team of SREs, providing technical guidance, coaching, and support that foster collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Hire, develop, organize, and equip talent, and make hiring decisions.
- Build a service culture and motivate staff through clear expectations and constructive feedback.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement through experimentation, learning, knowledge sharing, and professional development. Encourage the team to adopt AI tools responsibly.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. A Computer Science or related technical degree is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a leadership role managing a team of DevOps engineers, Site Reliability Engineers, or related technical professionals.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in software development and/or technology platform, infrastructure, or operations.
- Demonstrated ability to set direction and inspire team members to engage and deliver on a vision.
- Experience developing team members through performance evaluations and constructive feedback.
- Experience managing availability targets and leading incident and problem management processes.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proactive approach to resolving complex technical issues.
- Experience with cloud platforms and their APIs (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or Bicep.
- Experience designing and supporting scalable systems and services.
- Experience with observability tools such as Datadog or New Relic, and with defining service level objectives (SLOs) and monitoring standards.
- Experience using AI/ML tools to improve service, reduce cost, and reduce toil. Comfort evaluating and adopting new AI tools, including validating their outputs and handling data responsibly.
- Hands-on experience with programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, or C#).
- Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly, including AI tools, our products, and our architecture.
- Excellent critical thinking, communication, presentation, documentation, troubleshooting, and collaborative problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ownership of accountabilities.
- Comfort in a fast-paced environment and motivation from complex technical and business challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AIOps solutions and AI-driven monitoring and anomaly detection.
- Experience leading release management, coordinating cross-functional teams through deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of new features and updates.
- Experience representing a team to senior leadership or customers.
