As part of the Audit Professional Practice Department (APPD), the Audit & Assurance Quality (AAQ) function plays a central role in supporting the consistent delivery of high-quality audits and assurance engagements across BDO. AAQ develops and maintains audit methodology, policies and guidance, monitors compliance with professional and regulatory requirements, and provides technical consultation and support to engagement teams on complex matters.

AAQ also oversees quality management processes, including monitoring and remediation activities, root cause analysis, learning and capability development initiatives. Through these activities, AAQ helps foster a culture of quality, professional scepticism and continuous improvement, reinforcing BDO's commitment to serving the public interest and maintaining stakeholder confidence in our work.

The PCAOB-focused audit quality team works with engagement teams, service line leaders and subject matter specialists to support the consistent application of PCAOB auditing standards, BDO methodology and relevant regulatory requirements for engagements performed in the PCAOB environment.

About the Opportunity

The Manager – PCAOB Audit Quality supports the development, implementation and operation of audit quality activities for PCAOB engagements. The role will provide practical methodology support, assist with inspection readiness and remediation activities, and contribute to learning and capability-building initiatives that promote consistent, high-quality engagement outcomes.

Key duties and responsibilities:

• Support the development and maintenance of PCAOB audit methodology, policies, guidance, templates and practical tools
• Monitor changes to PCAOB standards, regulatory requirements and inspection themes, and assist in assessing implications for engagement teams and methodology resources
• Contribute to the preparation of technical guidance, communications and implementation materials for PCAOB engagement teams
• Assist with technical consultations and methodology queries relating to PCAOB engagements, including documentation, audit evidence and engagement performance matters
• Identify practical improvements to methodology, guidance, tools and learning based on inspection and monitoring insights
• Support consistency in the application of PCAOB requirements across relevant engagements and offices
• Assist in reviewing selected engagement documentation, tools or communications to support PCAOB compliance monitoring
• Contribute to the identification of emerging risks and opportunities to improve PCAOB engagement quality
• Support and assist in PCAOB inspection and remediation activities
• Assist with the design and delivery of PCAOB-focused learning, workshops, webinars and guidance materials
• Support engagement teams in building technical capability and professional judgement in the PCAOB environment
• Maintain practical resources that help teams apply PCAOB requirements consistently and efficiently
• Contribute to communities of practice and knowledge-sharing activities across PCAOB engagement teams

About You

This role will work closely with PCAOB engagement teams, partners, directors and AAQ colleagues. As such they will help translate PCAOB requirements and BDO methodology into practical guidance, tools and targeted support.

Our ideal candidate has strong technical judgement, well developed communication skills and has the ability to manage multiple quality initiatives in a regulatory environment.

As well as:

• Minimum 5 years+ related experience, preferably within external audit or audit quality in a professional services environment
• Strong technical knowledge of PCAOB auditing standards and audit methodology, with experience in PCAOB engagements
• CA qualified or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience supervising, coaching or mentoring staff
• Experience in audit quality initiatives, audit file reviews, inspection readiness, remediation activities, technical consultations or the development of audit guidance and learning materials would be highly regarded
• Experience working with ASX-listed, SEC registrant, foreign private issuer or other complex audit engagements is preferred but not required
• Experience with audit tool software and audit methodology platforms
