About this Manager Network & Systems Administration (m/f/d) role at Isar Aerospace SE
Mission Brief
We are seeking a hands-on Manager Network & Systems Administration to lead, maintain, and modernize our hybrid infrastructure. In this role, you will act as both a technical lead and an infrastructure owner, bridging our on-premise virtualization, enterprise networking, and multi-cloud environments.
This is a hands-on lead position designed for a senior engineer who excels at architecture, network engineering, and troubleshooting while serving as the primary technical authority for our infrastructure. You will be responsible for end-to-end reliability, system security, network connectivity, and overseeing automated deployment workflows—from bare-metal hypervisors to cloud routing.
Your Role in Our Space Mission:
Technical Leadership & Operations
- Hands-on Infrastructure Leadership: Serve as the primary technical subject matter expert (SME) and escalation point for all systems, virtualization, and network architecture.
- Vendor & Asset Management: Oversee infrastructure vendor relationships, license agreements, hardware lifecycles, and service level agreements (SLAs).
- Incident & Capacity Planning: Lead major incident responses, perform root-cause analysis (RCA), and proactively monitor capacity across storage, compute, and network links.
Multi-Cloud & Virtualization Management
- Hybrid & Multi-Cloud Administration: Design, secure, and maintain scalable infrastructure across Azure, AWS, and IONOS Cloud.
- On-Premise Virtualization: Oversee, optimize, and maintain our enterprise hypervisor clusters using VMware vSphere (ESXi/vCenter) and Proxmox VE (KVM/LXC).
- Disaster Recovery & Data Protection: Plan, implement, and test automated backup, recovery, and high-availability strategies across all platforms.
- Infrastructure Automation Concepts: Understand and support Infrastructure as Code (IaC) workflows (Terraform/Ansible) to streamline server provisioning, configuration management, and patching.
Enterprise Networking & Security
- Network & Connectivity Management: Design, configure, and troubleshoot complex network architecture involving Cloud VPCs, Site-to-Site IPsec VPNs, VLAN segmentation, DNS, DHCP, and firewalls.
- Traffic Management: Manage load balancing, ingress routing, and perimeter security to ensure high availability and zero-trust access principles.
Qualification Checklist
- Operating Systems: Advanced, expert-level proficiency in Debian and/or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Virtualization: Deep hands-on expertise with VMware (ESXi/vCenter) and Proxmox VE (KVM/LXC).
- Cloud Platforms: Proven experience managing production environments in Azure and AWS (familiarity with IONOS Cloud is a major plus).
- Networking & Firewalls: Strong understanding of TCP/IP, BGP/OSPF routing, DNS, Load Balancing (HAProxy/Nginx), enterprise Firewalls, and IPsec VPNs.
- Automation & Scripting (Conceptual): Solid conceptual understanding of Ansible, Terraform, Bash, or Python—ability to read, understand, run, and troubleshoot existing playbooks and scripts.
- Storage & Backups: Experience managing enterprise storage protocols (iSCSI, NFS, SAN) and backup tools (e.g., Veeam or built-in virtualization snapshot engines).
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in Systems Administration, Network Engineering, or Cloud Architecture, with demonstrated experience acting in a lead or senior capacity.
- Proven track record of architecting, deploying, and maintaining hybrid cloud and multi-site network environments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to bridge technical requirements and business objectives.
Bonus Skills
- Linux: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Linux Foundation Certified Engineer (LFCE)
- Cloud: Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104), AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, or Solutions Architect
- Networking/Virtualization: VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or Cisco Certified Network Associate/Professional (CCNA/CCNP)
