What's the Short Version?

The Manager, DC Facilities is responsible for reviewing, planning, and ensuring adherence to scheduled work and supervision of maintenance team members to maintain Autostore and other Distribution Center systems and equipment. This position is responsible for the mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic controls that optimize operations, material handling systems, and overall building and grounds conditions within SanMar distribution centers. Responsibilities include oversight of building and grounds maintenance, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and replacement, parts management, vendor interactions, and related automated systems. The position requires a working understanding of user interfaces, electronic controls, and components related to conveyance and production-related automated systems.

This role requires a strong understanding of automated systems, material handling equipment, and facility operations to prioritize maintenance activities, assess operational impact, and support operational continuity. While not expected to possess the same level of hands-on repair expertise as Facilities Technicians, the manager must understand system issues and ensure troubleshooting and repair activities are initiated promptly. This role fosters a culture of urgency and accountability, works closely with Distribution Systems Technology and Solutions teams, DC leadership, and Material Handling vendors and integrators to maximize system stability, scale, and performance, and is responsible for the overall DC Facilities department. This role is local to a SanMar distribution center, with potential travel to support additional sites, train technicians and DC staff, and support MHE and automation rollouts.

 

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Oversee all work and responsibilities of the Facilities team, ensuring they have the best resources available to complete their duties and enforcing all corporate safety procedures.
  • Regularly identify opportunities to reduce equipment downtime, improve system reliability, and hold team members accountable for the timely completion of preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and follow-up actions.
  • Ensure production operations by setting work priorities, repair and maintenance schedules, and installation of machinery and equipment.
  • Support the Safety program in conjunction with the Safety Committee and ensure all documentation is gathered and submitted; review all Accident investigation reports and ensure that corrective actions are issued when necessary.
  • Review the mechanic utilization reports and initiate actions that lead to the improvement of mechanic effectiveness; review equipment downtime reports and takes action to improve equipment performance.
  • Establish clear priorities and expectations for the Facilities team, ensuring maintenance activities are completed with urgency, critical equipment issues are addressed promptly, and operational disruptions are minimized
  • Audit Preventive Maintenance programs on an on-going basis and makes changes to improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Alongside the General Manager, monitor and evaluate effectiveness of DC system operations and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of operations.
  • Coordinate ordering materials and monitor the supply of spare parts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.

 

What Are We Looking For?

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 4-6 years of progressive experience in maintenance engineering and system repair
  • 1-3 years of supervisory/lead experience
  • In depth knowledge of preventive maintenance program development and implementation, maintenance work prioritization and scheduling
  • Working knowledge of operating budgets and knowledge in analyzing and forecasting variances, spreadsheet and software programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent project management skills
  • Flexible with schedule, able to provide off-hours support either remotely, or onsite, as needed

 

What's Our Offer?

Salary Range: You`ll earn between $86,000 - $124,700 annually, depending on experience.

 

Bonus: You`ll be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus up to 15% of base salary.

 

Paid Time Off: You`ll accrue paid time off on a bi-weekly basis based on hours worked up to 152 hours per year to start. Employees also receive 8 paid holidays and 1 paid family day off.

What Should You Expect?

DC Warehouse (Non-Equipment): While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 60 pounds. The employee frequently uses both hands as well as full range of motion of the neck, head and back. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, grasp and perform repetitive hand, wrist and arm motions. The employee is frequently required to climb stairs, kneel/squat, bend and carry. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to wear a headset covering one or both ears. Basic literacy is required for operation of machines and necessary daily paperwork. Work environment is moderately noisy. The employee is occasionally required to work near conveyor systems. There is exposure to dust and changes in weather conditions. Work is performed under typical warehouse conditions. Potential hazards exist with regard to machinery such as forklifts, pallet jacks, mechanized systems, etc. Work environment is hectic and fast-paced. The employee is regularly exposed to ambient lighting and can be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold including climates consistent with outside weather conditions.
