POSITION SUMMARY:


The Manager, Content Strategy, is a core member of the Content Strategy team within the BMCHS Communications organization of the Marketing and Communications department. Reporting to the Director, Content Strategy, the Manager, Content Strategy, will play an integral role in supporting the development of high-quality, strategically aligned content that advances BMCHS’s reputation, thought leadership, and organizational messaging.


Working in close partnership with the Director, Content Strategy and broader Communications leadership, the Manager develops compelling editorial content, thought leadership, and storytelling that elevates BMCHS's clinical excellence, innovation, research, and commitment to health equity. The role collaborates with Marketing and Communications colleagues, executive leaders, clinicians, researchers, program leaders, and internal and external stakeholders to translate complex initiatives into clear, engaging, audience-focused communications.


The ideal candidate will have 5 to 7 years of professional editorial experience in communications, journalism, content strategy, public relations, healthcare communications, digital media, or a related field. Strong writing, interviewing, editing, and project management skills are essential, along with the ability to synthesize complex clinical, scientific, and operational information into compelling narratives. This role is ideal for a proactive communicator who is comfortable supporting high-profile strategic initiatives, identifies storytelling opportunities, exercises strong editorial judgment, has executive presence, and independently drives projects that strengthen BMCHS's reputation and thought leadership. The successful candidate will be highly organized, collaborative, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while exercising strong editorial judgment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Supports the Director, Content Strategy in executing the editorial vision for BMCHS thought leadership platforms and priority storytelling initiatives, ensuring alignment with enterprise messaging, reputational priorities, and organizational goals.
  • Oversees editorial content for BMCHS thought leadership platforms, including identifying editorial opportunities; recruiting clinicians, researchers, executives, community partners, and external subject matter experts; shaping story concepts; reviewing contributed content; and co-creation of compelling stories that considers system goals and stakeholder perspectives
  • Supports the development and maintenance of enterprise messaging resources by coordinating stakeholder input, drafting messaging updates, and ensuring consistency across Communications materials and editorial content.
  • Supports BMCHS's awards and recognition strategy by identifying opportunities, coordinating submissions, partnering with leaders to identify candidates, developing compelling award nominations, maintaining tracking systems and editorial calendars, and proactively managing timelines that maximize external recognition.
  • Contributes to content and communications planning for tentpole events, including drafting executive talking points, speaker messaging, briefing materials, speaker invitations, panel preparation materials, and supporting communications materials.
  • Proactively monitors the healthcare, research, policy, and media landscape—including professional social platforms, academic publications, conferences, and industry conversations—to identify emerging trends, timely storytelling opportunities, and external thought leaders that advance BMCHS's strategic communications and reputational goals.
  • Maintains editorial calendars and organizes content for publication using Wordpress- and Drupal-based content management systems and Airtable
  • Prepares, writes, and edits content for bmc.org and bmchealthsystem.org that reinforces enterprise messaging and organizational priorities.
  • Prepares, writes, and edits persuasive content for newsletters and other Marketing materials
  • Supports Director, Content Strategy as editor/proofreader across Communications tactics, ensuring editorial excellence, consistency of voice, alignment with enterprise messaging, adherence to organizational style standards, and consideration of reputational implications.
  • Works collaboratively with Marketing and Communications colleagues, subject matter experts, and freelancers and/or agency partners to develop content.
  • Partners with the digital marketing team to optimize all content for search engines and AI platforms.
  • Partners with the social media team to promote content on platforms including BlueSky, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram
  • Contributes to Communications innovation and Communications compliance (e.g. adherence to style guides, alignment with key messaging and consideration of stakeholder and reputational factors)
  • Must adhere to all of BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Undergraduate or graduate degree in journalism, communications, or a related field

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

EXPERIENCE:

5 to 10 years of professional editorial experience. Candidates are encouraged to include a portfolio website or links to online clips in the online application

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including writing and editing for publication
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex clinical, scientific, operational, and policy information into compelling, audience-focused content.
  • Strong editorial judgment with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Experience developing thought leadership content for executives, physicians, researchers, or other subject matter experts. 
  • Ability to manage multiple editorial projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build relationships across a complex organization. 
  • Experience managing editorial calendars, content workflows, and publication schedules. 
  • Experience with content management systems, SEO best practices, and digital publishing. 
  • Ability to proactively identify storytelling opportunities that strengthen organizational reputation and thought leadership. 
  • Demonstrated curiosity about emerging healthcare trends, policy, research, and innovation, with the ability to translate those developments into strategic editorial opportunities.
  • Strong executive presence when interacting with C-suite and executive leaders

Compensation Range:

$78,000.00- $113,000.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness. In addition, BMCHS offers generous total compensation that includes, but is not limited to, benefits (medical, dental, vision, pharmacy), discretionary annual bonuses and merit increases, Flexible Spending Accounts, 403(b) savings matches, paid time off, career advancement opportunities, and resources to support employee and family well-being.
