The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Coordinates and evaluates child life programs and maintains standards of care for patients and their families. Directs and supervises staff and pediatric volunteers. Directs the management of personnel in the delivery of child life services based on established standards, policies, procedures, and physical resources for the patient care unit. Manages staff development, conducts periodic and annual performance reviews, and submits completed records and reports. Develops short and long-term objectives for the program. Supervises and evaluates programming and all related activities. Identifies potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement, and directs staff in appropriate action plans.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Directs the management of personnel in the delivery of services based on established standards, policies, procedures, and physical resources for the patient care unit. Hires, promotes, evaluates, develops, and processes terminations for staff based on standards of practice. Manages staff development of staff, conducts periodic and annual performance reviews of each staff member, and submits completed records and reports. Organizes and plans in-service training for staff. Manages the selection, orientation, and supervision of volunteers and interns.
  • Develops short and long-term objectives for the program. Supervises and evaluates programming and all related activities. Identifies potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement, and directs staff in appropriate action plans. Completes written departmental reports to serve as an evaluation tool in order to identify progress and achievements within the Child Life Department.
  • Manages quality patient and family services through evaluation of the programs to ensure they are meeting or exceeding standards, policies, and procedures developed. Establishes staffing patterns to ensure delivery of service in a cost-effective manner.
  • Independently serves as consultant, within areas of expertise, to Child Life and nursing staff members and other health care providers. Achieves interdisciplinary collaboration. Communicates and collaborates as a manager with nursing, other health care providers, personnel, patients, and families in the care and management of total quality health care for patients and their families. Participates in the planning, coordination, and implementation of community programs that support the organization.
  • Participates as a member of the management team and is directly involved in establishing departmental mission, vision, and goals. Participates as a manager on committees at the unit, service and hospital level. Directs and supports staff involvement in the development and implementation of patient/family health education activities.
  • Develops and manages the operating budget. Provides monthly variance reports. Directs the management of selection and purchase of equipment for the department.
  • Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in an area related to Child Growth and Development 5 years of relevant experience required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1 year of supervisory experience preferred


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) upon hire required
  • CCLS - Certified Child Life Specialist within 1 year required
