The Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, this role plays a key part in preparing the monthly management accounts across our UK and US trading entities. The role is based in our Harrogate office, working alongside our finance team, and is hybrid with 3 days a week in the office.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives

Management Accounts & Reporting

• Assist in the production of the monthly management accounts with a focus on completing Sales Reporting and Margin Analysis to required deadlines, and explaining the outputs clearly to non-finance colleagues.
• Prepare information for inclusion in the monthly Management Accounts Pack.
• Take direct accountability for the integrity of all sales and COGS transactions, ensuring that cash received across our multiple sales channels is accurately recorded and fully reconciled.
• Support the Commercial Finance function through ad hoc sales and margin reporting.
• Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations with ownership for query resolution.

Stock & Cost Accounting

• Take ownership of all stock accounting, proactively identifying and driving efficiencies and process improvements.
• Develop and maintain cost accounting, preparing meaningful analysis to compare standard costs to actual production costs and investigating PPV (Purchase Price Variances) identified.
• Maintain systematically held selling prices and customer discounts in the ERP, including wholesale discounts against RRP.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Proactively identify, develop and deploy system improvements that reduce manual interaction within the accounting function and improve the timeliness of reporting available to the business, working closely with the Financial Controller to bring these to life.
• Develop or adapt systems and processes to support improved ways of working and additional analysis.

Key Partnerships & Stakeholder Management

• Act as liaison with the Operations team to ensure stock holdings are reported accurately, physical stock takes are executed, and periodic reconciliations are completed.
• Business partner with Commercial Finance and the wider business to support commercial decision-making.
• Support the Financial Controller in the provision of information required for annual and interim audits.

Requirements

Essential

• Part/Qualified accountant.
• Experience of an ERP accounting software system.
• A level of IT literacy that enables you to analyse and interrogate data using Excel.
• Excellent communicator able to develop relationships with both external and internal clients.
• Ability to identify and implement continuous process improvement.
• Eligible to work in the UK.

Desirable

• Experience of stock monitoring, including stock counts and reconciliations.
• Experience of standard cost accounting.
• Experience of Sage X3 (ERP)
• Some audit-related experience at a standard level, such as process walkthroughs or pulling samples.
• Confident business partner, able to collaborate effectively with Commercial Finance and colleagues across the business.
