The Maintenance Technician – Level 2 performs intermediate to advanced mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic maintenance and troubleshooting with increased independence. This role supports production reliability, mentors Level 1 technicians, and contributes to preventive maintenance effectiveness while maintaining strict safety and food quality compliance in a food manufacturing environment.

Direct Responsibilities

  • Perform intermediate to advanced mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic troubleshooting on production equipment including packaging lines, conveyors, mixers, processing equipment, pumps, and automated machinery.
  • Diagnose root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Execute equipment repairs including component replacement, precision adjustments, gearbox installation, and mechanical drive service (belts, chains, gears).
  • Troubleshoot and support PLC‑controlled equipment, including basic I/O checks, sensor adjustments, and system diagnostics.
  • Perform inspections and testing on motors, drives, bearings, belts, pneumatic systems, and electrical components.
  • Execute and document preventive maintenance tasks using Work Order and PM programs.
  • Identify potential equipment failures and recommend improvements to maintenance programs.
  • Respond promptly to production downtime to minimize disruption and restore operations.
  • Support equipment setup, calibrations, line changeovers, and production adjustments.
  • Train and guide Maintenance Technician – Level 1 employees and support machine operators with equipment fundamentals.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Follow OSHA safety guidelines, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and all facility safety policies.
  • Maintain strict adherence to GMPs, HACCP, SQF, and plant sanitation standards.
  • Ensure maintenance work does not contaminate production areas or compromise product safety.
  • Accurately document maintenance activities, repairs, and PM completion in EAM/CMMS systems.
  • Read, interpret, and apply electrical prints, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Apply structured troubleshooting and practical problem‑solving techniques for new or complex issues.
  • Communicate effectively with maintenance, operations, and leadership regarding equipment status and risks.
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor for lower‑level technicians.

Skills & Experience

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in industrial mechanical and/or electrical maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Working knowledge of pneumatic control systems and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Proficiency troubleshooting using electrical prints, input/output indicators, and diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of 3‑phase (480V) electrical systems, motor starters, and controls.
  • Experience with pumps (centrifugal, diaphragm, positive displacement).
  • Ability to read schematics, manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency using hand tools, precision instruments, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and mentor others.
  • Physically capable of meeting all job demands, including working at heights and in industrial environments.

Preferred

  • Working knowledge of Allen‑Bradley PLC systems; ability to read ladder logic preferred but not required.
  • Basic welding skills (TIG, MIG, Stick, Gas).
  • Understanding of conveyors (tabletop, belt, bottle, and full‑case systems).
  • Understanding of EAM/CMMS and preventive maintenance management processes.
  • Basic knowledge of networking and machine communication protocols.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and skill development.
  • Ability to support cross‑training and team development initiatives.
